I needed multiple choice really! Sorry to be awkward. For carry I like stainless (sweat buckets) ... and for hand cannons also like stainless.

Then tho is the ''classic''/collectible category and I am a total sucker for the deep luster of good blue - per S&W. Some small compacts, am happy with the dull grays and blacks of polymer etc.

Indeed, it is really rather much on a gun-by-gun basis. (Male BTW).

Definitely depends on the gun. I own a couple Colts from the sixties and early seventies as well as a M27. Those guns have beautiful blue finishes. However I also own a several stainless steels as well as a couple M28's that I had refinished with a Parkarized finish and a polymer coat. I have those models because the finishes are strong. Yep depends on the gun and what it's going to be used for.

I like both. My first gun was a stainless 1911, but now I prefer my revolvers and 1911's blued. Everything else, it depends.

You forgot an option. Two tone.

I'd take a two tone pistol first, then deep polished blue, then hardchrome, then stainless.

A two tone 1911 (stainless frame, polished blued slide) is absolutely gorgeous. But its gotta have black grips of some sort. Beautiful.

Has to be shiny. Aside from liking the look of stainless/nickel/chrome, I'm one of those people with extremely acidic skin. My fingerprints managed to etch themselves into a stainless money clip overnight, the back of my watch is pitted and spotted, etc.

Finishes?

Legitimate/mainstream pistol = dark finish (unless its a revolver then SS)

Saturday Night Special - highly reflective chrome/nickle finish
(as long as it comes with white/pink pearl or ivory
grips) :D

I've got stainless guns and even a nickel one. But, for daily use I'll take a dark gun anyday. Bright polished steel went out with the Civil War.

Most of my guns are stainless, but it's for practical reasons, not cosmetic. I have some non-stainless guns, but typically only when the finish used is very sturdy or when stainless isn't available.

So I voted that it doesn't make any difference since it's not the appearance that matters to me.

So long as it's a quality finish, the type and color are low on my list of priorities in deciding whether to purchase. Male, indifferent.

I've owned guns in high polished blue, matte finish, stainless, bright nickel, polycoat, and hard chrome. Currently, I have each type of finish except the bright nickel. It's all about the look and the quality of the gun for me, and yes, I would own another handgun in bright nickel. Oh, almost forgot, I'm definitely male.

This is pretty interesting, and some one was right, i should have added a "two-tone" option :) I alway thought those look sharp, havent got on or anything though.

And where all are the girls? :p i know atleast a few are around, so come on and vote lol

No female voters as yet?

Must have gotten distracted by some shiny things (as monkeys, birds and small children are also wont to be) before they could vote.

There's probably a more generally applicable "voting" comment to be made here too, but I think I should run and hide now.

Ok-1st female vote entered! :neener:

Most often I do prefer the stainless but it does also depend on the gun. All of my revolvers are stainless though.....SO FAR

I beleive their are more men on these gun sites than women. stating the obvious but it does seem the majority of women prefer stainless, and of men its indifferent. I almost voted for indifferent but I usually walk out with a stainless version of somthing, Id like a stainless 12 gauge one day soon. Im male and I prefer the stainless for its ruggedness. The way I think is once I buy everything in stainless then I can rebuy more in a blued version.

I have to say I sweat like mad in the summer so I have to carry stainless. I wish it was a dark gun but I have to suffer with a matte stainless.

I only own one "Brite" gun, that is a Ruger Vaquero in 45, with black micarta grips.

My pretty guns are all blue. python, 29 19 10 commander, gov't
match target woodsman. all old all gorgeous... now if someone could geta finish like that on a stainless gun....
