I was just cruising through a local internet auction site and spotted this item

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Antiques-collectables/Militaria/WWII-earlier/auction-28772217.htm

Oerlikon 20 mm Cannon

This is a Oerlikon 20mm anti - aircraft cannon ww2 period. It is totally complete with original storage trunks and all accessories, seperate trunk contains 2 60 rd drum mags. In excellent condition. Very rare with storage containers.

lenght = 87 ins
weight (gun) = 200 lbs
total weight (cased)= 350 lbs

A great collectors item or for a museum.

A firearms licence is required.

please see photos, NB : the ww2 US warship in the final photo is not included in the sale!
:what:

The current bid is NZ$2,800 .... only about US$2,000.

Interestingly, this item can be bought in New Zealand with a category A firearms licence (i.e. the general, ordinary vanilla firearms licence) ..... whereas a nasty, evil, military styled semi-automatic like an AR15 requires a category E licence ..... very strange!!!

That would certainly stop the mutant ninja zombie bear hoards but I'm guessing its a bit big to CCW. You'd pretty much have to have your own private range to mount your Oerlikon on and I'm guessing the whole neighbourhood would know when you decided to have a shoot. Would be a blast though (literally!).

I think there should be more Oerllikon 20 mm cannons owned by firearms enthusiasts .... if an armed society is a polite society, just think how much more polite people would be if there were more of these puppies about. :D

I want one!!

I wonder if I can reload 20mm on my Dillon? :D

I actually have a 20mm dummy shell at home (and 30mm) I'll post some pics tonight.

Here is the pic. For reference, the Bowen book is 12 inches tall.
