Well I had to, it has been around 60-65 degrees around here lately. I got a little cabin fever, so I loaded up around noon and went to a spot about an hour from my house. Yup, sure enough, a few pdogs were out and about. Windy when I got there, but not too bad, I thought as I was unloading my shooting bench....my hit percentage wasn't that great, (little rusty to start off)but it was good to get out in February!

Sounds like a good day, no matter what the dog count was.

Hit high 40s around here yesterday and some people were even out in shorts. Guess that's what happens when has been in the single digits for soo many days this winter.

I'd have liked to traipse along with you, we had 60 degree day here too, but some light snow tonight. Man, will spring ever get here? Good day out hunting is better than a day in the Strato-Lounger !

I really need to get out of Ohio, this is truelly the "Frozen Tundra". Temps here have been in the single digits and teens for the whole month. I just wish we had prairie dogs here.

witchhunter: Good for You. I wish I could have taged along also. There is nothing like a nice warm sunny day when the PD`s are up and the wind drops off to nothing. Makes an Old Man relive old treasured memiories, and lose track of time. I envey You for that. Hope You did well.

I'm jealous, I have to wait until June in Montana. I didn't even know there were prairie dogs in Californee. Do the libs know what you're doing?

It is March now here and it was negative 11 when I left for school this morning. So I would be happy with 40 for getting out to do a little target practice.
Prairie dog hunting does look like fun. Maybe when I move out west I will get a chance to try it.
What caliber do you use? 22lr?

They are mini prairie dogs here. They are Richardson ground squirrels or Belden's. Look just like pdogs but are the size of a beer can standing up. Much smaller that the ones we shoot in Wyoming. They overtake the hay fields here and can only be seen until the alfalfa starts growing or right after it is cut. Several of the ranchers here love us to come out and shoot em! I have a couple of great ranches to shoot within an hour of home. I use .218 Bee, .221 Fireball, .223, .22/250, and .220 Ackley. Waiting on my .222 to get finished!

We have the same critters here in Washington too. June can't get here soon enough, I have a couple thousand rounds of .223 screaming "take me to Montana".
