I went out for a trunk gun and came home with a Westernfield 550 26" polychoke thinking it was a high end mossberg 500 since it has a bolt with rolled jewel marks and a metal tang safety. It actually had one action bar though. Does all Mossy 500 furniture fit it? and I found googling that the M500 barrels should fit if I want a shorter one. Any info you can share on the 550's ?

Here's what I got:

Western Field 550A = Mossberg 500A
Western Field 550AB = Mossberg 500AB
Western Field 550B = Mossberg 500B
Western Field 550C = Mossberg 500B
Western Field 550E = Mossberg 500E

Hope it helps.

I had a "Revelation 310" (Western Auto's version) I traded for when steel shot got mandated and I couldn't use my old double anymore, single action bar Mossberg before getting my newer 500. It had mismatched wood and a poly (C-Lect) choke on it. I put a 3" chambered Mossberg 500 barrel on it and a new set of wood I got from Numrich Arms and it worked fine. In fact, though the original barrel was marked 2 3/4" only, with the new Mossberg barrel I found it'd chamber and fire 3".

A 3 inch shell will chamber in a 2 3/4 chamber, it will fire, but it builds up very dangerous pressure, but you knew the chamber is measured with a fired shell, didn't you? The chamber has to be long enough for the crimp to unfurl. If you fire a longer shell the crimp will open out side the chamber and at as a barrel obstruction. A fired 2 3/4 shell is 3 inches when fired and the crimp is open. That is why you can chamber a 3 inch shell. A chamber for a 3 inch shell is actually 3 and 1/4 inches long. Your gun, your fingers and eyes.:uhoh:

Mcgunner put a 3 " barrel on he said. That includes a 3" chamber. My 550 has a 26" magnum polychoke so it can handle 3" also.

MCgunners post is not quite clear on what he did. On many of the Mossberg " Store Brands" they take short cuts to bring the price down, I have found that many of the accessories for the Mossberg 500 are not always a drop in for Store brands or the Maverick. In many cases either the gun or the part has to have minor modifications. Good luck and shoot safe.

I have a Western Field ABD.

The side saddle I just put on fit perfectly. Also, all the diagrams I've seen of the normal mossberg match perfectly.
