I’ve been using a Thumlers Model B Hi-Speed for over 10 years now. No issues with the machine, and it produces a jewelry-like finish to the brass.

I switched from the factory belts to equivalent sized O-rings. The O-rings last much longer than the factory belts, in my experience, and they are much cheaper as well. An O-ring will give years of service.

I use an empty coffee can with a small dab of liquid soap and some water, then I do 3 reps of 10 shakes and it is all clean!
My method is a dual purpose: it cleans the brass and it provides a light workout!
I mean, since we are to save the planet, I have to use green energy! :neener:
.

Is this that new renewable energy that we hear a lot about? ;)

I tumble a lot of brass. I have two of the bigger FARTS and a National Metalic wet tumbler.
They both clean the brass great, but I personally prefer the Frankford tumblers over the National Metalic tumbler.
Depending upon your water will depend upon how much Lemi-shine you will have to use.
We have city tap water, I use a cap full of ArmorAll Wash n Wax, a 2/2 teaspoon of Lemi-shine Booster and a small squirt of the Blue Dawn Dish Soap.
I use hot tap water and tumble for an hour.
Dump the dirty black water.
Fill back up with fresh warm water, shake it up a little and dump that dirty water.
Fill back up with warm water and add a cap full of ArmorAll Wash n Wax. Let it rum for fifteen to twenty minutes
Drain and remove the pins.
I made drying racks to dry the brass.
I bought the magnet from Harbor Freight.
I bought a small bottle of Finnish Jet Dry and added a cap full of that until it ran out. View attachment 1105641 View attachment 1105642 View attachment 1105643 View attachment 1105644

I thought the 1st 4 paragraphs of your post was something I had posted.

Wow wet tumbling for the win. Just did my first load of 45acp range pickup in a FART, I’m impressed how clean it is. Thanks to all in the thread that convinced me to try it.

Is there a consensus on best way to separate the stainless steel pins?

I am no help on separating the pins since mine are still in the bag. Next time try without the pins. I just use citric acid and armor all.

I made this: IMG_1284.JPG IMG_1285.JPG Get one of these also: 61Jed05-BrL._AC_SS450_.jpg The ad says it will pick up 8#. Not true! It does a good job of picking up stray pins though.
I Got my tumbler a Tumbler's tumbler from Midway. for 212.00 + shipping and tax.
I will try to get the name of the company I got the pins from. It was the best price I found, I think it was $23.00+shipping and tax for 5 #.
It was a computer part company?
I am going to cut out the rod that goes thru the center of the drum, as soon as I figure out a way to stiffen the ends.

I won’t answer the “consensus” question, but I use the filter end cap on the FART to get most of the pins out when I dump the dirty and rinse water. Then I use a plastic slotted veggie basket, the kind you can get at TSC. I do own the magnet, it helps a lot with the loose pins. Good luck!

The company I got my pins thru was at Bestbyte.net 877-767-2983. They show no listing for any SS pins now.
I just spoke with CS at Bestbyte they no longer carry the pins, the guy said thier cost has gone up considerably! Thanks Brandon.
