i am trying to make up my mind. i have no wet weather gear. i am contemplatiing between one of those hang on the tree umbrellas. or an inexpensive rain poncho. money is very tight this year, do i can not spend very much. i most always sit all day, and almost always hunt in, or on the edge of the woods. if i had the money, i would just buy really good waterproof, scent proof, everything in the world proof hunting clothes. but money is now, and always has been an issue. opinions please.

What size pant are you? I may have a pair of woodland gortex pant's I can send you.

Thats cool surjimmy!
Mooooose102, money is tight! I have brand new pair of waterproof socks I got from my small boat team when I was in the U.S.N I can send you. Only been in the feild twice, and dont smell if you use Febreeze... Just playin', they are new never used, still in package.

I use German surplus Flec cammo rain gear on the tundra, because its cheap and looks like Tundra...from Sportsmans guide. The lined OD Green ones are the wifes favorite summer outter pants for boating in the rain, blood from meat and slime from fish. It never gets on her under clothes, they are as good as the Flec, but cheaper.
I use Helly Hanson foul weather gear in the boat. Heavy duty, if you hunt from a boat.
Try a Salvation Army store, or a discount center, 2nd hand...you might find a real bargin

ALL Milsurp IS made for Camping, being outside and is cheap. Try Cheaper than Dirt.

Staying dry is staying comfortable, and thats what you need to enjoy the time.

I got some decent rain gear from Gander mountain. It was their guide series. I think it was $40 for pant/jacket combo. They work pretty well but after 2.5 days of hunting in the rain they start seeping a little.

What all are you needin, is it just the wet weather gear? I have a blaze orange rain coat, but I think it will be too small from your pm. Also a have one of those camo pillows u can sit on if you need it. I do have a orange vest you can have also if needed. Thanks hotlead you took it in the spirit I was intending. OP....make a list of what u need and post it and we'll see what we can come up with. Come on guys lets help him out, we all have extra gear we don't use. He wears a 44 pant, mine are a tad too small.

i have all the cold weather gear i need, and my boots are supposed to be water proof. i also have some seal skinz socks. you can stand in a pond with those on for hours and never leak a drop. what i need is something to keep me relativly dry in case it rains. my brother had one of those $2.00 poncho's, he gave me that. i have my doubts as to how good it will be. $2.00 isnt much money. if i can stay dry, i can stay warm. but typically here in michigan, november brings 34 degree rain / snow mix with a 30/40 mph wind. nice huh!?! i have hunted with my orange camo outer gear in 40 mph wind / snow with temps down around 10 degrees. i wasnt exactly toasty, but i survived. after aprox 90 minutes, i have to get up and walk around in those coditions. just to much wind and cold. when you just sit, your heart rate slows down, and so does your circulation. i walk slowly for 20 minutes or so, and it slowly raises my heart rate/circulation enough to sit back down for another 60-90 minutes. in the past, i would always have to quit if it rained for very long. i tried the silicone spray. it kind of works for maybe an hour. after that, the water starts seeping in. when you are wet, you are cold. it is as simple as that. i thought about an army parka. i thought that if it would keep our soldiers dry for hours or days, it should work for me. well, at the army surpluss store they had 5 or 6 different ones. varrying from 16.00 up to 300.00. anything that looked any good was upwards of $125.00. to much for me this year. i had also thought about one of those umbrellas that you strap to a tree. since usually, i sit against a tree. but i dont know if they will work in the wind, or take the wind without breaking. any ideas about those?

Since you hunt the edge of the woods, you might consider just tying up a tarp so you have a place to get out of the rain if necessary. Canvas will be quieter than plastic, but more expensive.

I would also take one of those inexpensive ponchos that sell for around $5 at Kmart with me. Mayb two. They are very compact. They're kinda like a garbage bag with a hood.
