Only 125g Hornady XTP bullets, usually with Win 296 behind them, sometimes with Alliant Unique. Oh yeah, and pretty much max loads as they're coming out of a 16" Puma carbine...

Fly my pretties!

Does any one know about cci blazer is it any good. I know some guys who say that it has aluminum cases that well get stuck in the gun

Mike, I have gone thru atleast a thousand rounds of the aluminum case Blazer stuff (in a Ruger revolver), and not had one stick to anything yet. That's kooky talk.

Now I did have one round that suffered a ruptured casing on firing, but it did no damage to the cylinder, and it still didn't stick.

For .375 magnums the Blazers are a really light loading of modest recoil. Similar to some +p .38's. I can shoot boxes of the stuff, all day long - no prob. Can't say that about most 357 loads.

Good plinker stuff, and in a pinch would work for SD/HD too.

Just got back from the range I used Winchester 38 spl cci blazer in 357 my dads hand loads also in 357.
I could not hit the target to save my life with the blazer. I could hit it pretty good with the win 38.
But with the hand loads I put 3 rounds in the 10 ring in one hole at 25 feet on nra official 50 ft slow fire pistol targets. but the problem is my dad does not reload any more. so do you know of any company that makes ammo thets as good as hand load. who uses the best powder the best bullet the best brass.
Who makes the best ammo.

This comment maybe controversial! But I would like to suggest that you if you are going to practice with .357's that you stay with the heavier 147 and 158 grain projectile in a S&W "K" frame. There is a school of thought that the lighter bullet in the full house loading "CAN?" cause problems. I'll hush and crawl back into my corrner.:)

125 Gr XTP handloads. VV 320 powder, Starline brass and Winchester primers. These are not high end speedsters, however, they are strong enough and comfortable to shoot for me and the wife out of a 4" m65 without excessive muzzle blast (that's why the faster powder).

Plinking round = 158-gr LSWC, 4.5-gr Titegroup, .357 case, Federal 100 primer that chronos 900-fps from a 4" barrel. Nice and fun with low recoil and very accurate.

A lot more stout than my plinking round is a Lyman 358429 170-gr hard cast Keith bullet over a heavy charge of Unique or 2400 in a .38-Spl case. Those loads chrono around 1245 and is THE classic Elmer Keith load for hunting anywhere in North America. This is my absolute favorite combination of bullet type, bullet weight and velocity in the .357-Magnum.

An "in between" load is a 158-gr hard cast LSWC over 6.0-gr Unique in a .357 case that does over 1050-fps. With this load you know you aren't shooting a .38-Special.

The screaming-est .357 Magnum load I have on hand is factory loaded Remington Express R357M1 125-gr SJHP. From my 6" stainless Security Six it chronos 1660-fps ten feet from the muzzle!

I dont have .357 SD/HD ammo but I target shoot with my GP-100. My ammo of choice is S&B FMJ 158gr. Enough kick to be fun but not enough to hurt.

For target: .38 or .38 +p; defensive round: Federal .38 special JHP.

OTHER: handloads, both 158 cast SWCs for practice and 140 XTP Hornadys for cleaning and social purposes. I like Accurate propellants, CCI primers and Starline brass.

My Model 66 has never had to endure not knowing what was in the charge holes.;)

I like the Doubletap 158gr Gold Dot for carry. Reloads for play.
