I went and bought a Glock 34 today. I have always wanted a 9mm and thought why not kill two birds with one stone. Until now I have shot CDP with a Glock 30. I like the gun and shoot well with it, but I see guys shoot with these 9mm's and brass just flys out.

I just had a opportunity to finally shoot this gun along side with the M&P Comp 9. I couldn't keep a good group with the M&P and went with the 34. Long story short I have never really shot or reloaded a 9mm before and was curious to see what kind of ammo do you guys run with your 9mm in IDPA?

I reload so that isn't the problem, I am more curious to see what people are using to make the 125,000 power factor? I shoot a .45 in CDP which needs 165,000 PF, so I usually run a 200 gr bullet. In a 9mm am I better off with light 115', middle 125's or heavy 147's? Does the light stuff have problems with steel knock downs? I am about to order some bullets and was curious to which ones are optimum for my application.

Feel free to move this thread to reloading as that is more of the topic I am concerned with, but seeing as most IDPA shooters reload, I figured I would give this section a try.

I have tons of reloading manuals, but feel free to say what powder you use as well, I have just about them all. I'm used to the low pressure 45acp. Thanks in advance for all of your help and suggestions.

The softest shooting 9mm loads I have felt used Berry’s 147 grain plated bullet and 3.1 of VV N310 loaded to 1.160”. 3.2 of TiteGroup is almost as good, both make around 130-131 PF.

9mm IDPA load

My wife and I both shoot IDPA with Glock 34s (although she just purchased a M&P Pro to try out as well) and we load Precision 147 grain

with 3.7 grains of Winchester Super Target with a O.A.L. of 1.115. We used to run Tight Group but it is a bit "smokey " with the moly coated bullets. We have also had no problems running these moly coated lead bullets in our stock Glock barrels with I'm sure by now over 10,00 rounds down the pipe.

The Viht and Titiegroup loads I know and would vouch for.

I shoot 4.8 grains of Bullseye under a 115 grain RN. Go full tilt boogie, baby! (I need a heavier load to run my conversion barrels in the 40s, and just don't want 2 loads). So, they're all right at max.

I have a Glock 34, and a M&P Pro.

I didn't care for the 115 grain loads because they felt too "snappy" , and I thought the 147 grain loads seemed like I was waiting for the slide to close, so, I run 4 grains of Titegroup, behind a Zero, .356, 125 grain jhp. (yes, that is a .38 Super bullet, the same one I use in my "open" guns, and they seem more accurate than a true, .355/9mm bullet)

I shoot federal 115gr factory mostly
If I reload it is Montana Gold 115s. and Universal Calys

I am currently loading a 135 grain Billy Bullet (moly coated lead) and enough HP38 to make PF 131. Kind of an odd weight but it is a soft shooter.

Due to range velocity restrictions, and my fixed sights prefereances, I shoot a factory reman 147 grain subsonic load that has a power factor of 143. Off the shelf 115 grain ball would put you a little over 130.

The Glock Shooting Team uses 147gr JHP ammo from Atlanta Arms. Supposedly loaded to around 135PF.

I've started shooting 147gr Montana Gold CMJ's over 3.8gr of S1000 @ 1.145". I really like this load. I haven't tried shooting long range groups with it but it shoots well on IDPA COFs and the plate rack. It chorno's @ 130pf. S1000 has is rumored to have large lot-to-lot variations so start low...

I shoot .40 with a conversion barrel for USPSA practice, and I do it a LOT. Therefore, not wanting two loads, I shoot full SAAMI spec 9mm with a 115 gr. bullet.

It honestly doesn't matter with the type of shooting we do. As long as you make PF, shoot it. You're not doing bullseye, ya know? I'm not a fan of poodle shooter loads for matches in either sport--even my .40 loads for USPSA Limited are maxed out. If ya gonna practice, practice like ya mean it. <g>

If that puts me out of the running for the $100 grand and the Ferrari, so be it (it hasn't yet)

I have been shooting 124 gr cast and plated truncated cone bullets but recently discovered 147+gr bullet cast from WW. Very soft shooting when pushed with 2.7 gr of Win 231 - the bullets drop out of my mould at 156 gr!

Personally I found the 124 gr bullets to be very accurate. The 115s are very snappy when compared to the 124 and 247ès.

Take Care

Bob
