I have about $350 in Christmas gift money that I need to spend on a gun quick or my wife will make me spend it on something frivolous like food or shoes for the kids. *psh* :uhoh:

What I REALLY want is a .45 ACP revolver with a 4" or shorter barrel. A new Model 22 with case color hardening on the frame would be perfect. But not for $350 of course.

64-67s would have to be 3.5" or shorter otherwise I'm not interested right now. I just have a thing for revolvers with shorter barrels for some reason.

I just gave my dad's old M37 to my brother so I could use a J-frame. I kinda like the funky/functional looks of the Bodyguards. I prefer blued steel or stainless rather than alloy for this one.

Any ideas or deals welcome.

I realize I could get a newer 638 or 642 for about $370ish but for some reason they don't do anything for me.

Not interested in Charter Arms at this time.

Kinda just thinking out loud but hey, that's why we have forums, right?

Use it for a layaway if you see something that cost just a bit more and then pay off when you can. meh-bee?

It's possible you could find a beater 1937 Brazilian contract (Model 1917) for that if one comes up. I think I paid around that for one that had an IMBEL replacement barrel. I ended up selling it and finding a better example (for a couple hundred more). It was probably a fine revolver, but I wanted an original barrel. Unless you get really luck, most of the revolvers in your list are going to go for more than $350 though, especially an original 1950.

Yeah that one is a true long shot. I keep waiting for the golden pawn shop or garage sale find but all I ever find are garbagy hi points and used glocks for $700. I must not be living right or something. :D

Bud's shows a number of different J frames for a bit under $400; there's even a sweet looking Model 442 from their Custom Shop for $399. Kick in a little extra from your end and you're there.

I recently traded into a 2.5" M19 with a good bit of carry wear but in mechanically great condition for a CZ P07 I had $375 in, but I realise there's not a whole lot of those deals to be had recently

Try mom & pop gunshops, pawnshops, local classified sales. I've found some great deals that way over the years. I've not always been in a position to buy but have run across lots of good deals that way and this isn't a bad time to hunt because people are spent out and sometimes need the extra cash right now.

I got lucky once and ran across a basically new-in-box S&W 66-5 at a local gun show for $400. It was a trade in from a local juvenile justice complex. Had a rack number scrolled into the frame under the cylinder, but otherwise appeared to have been never issued and definitely never fired. Other than that, pretty much any used Smith I've seen usually comes with an astronomically high asking price.

A J-frame would be a sensible choice, but maybe not quite as fun. Bud's has no-lock 642's for around $360 which I fell is always a decent choice.

SOG, Centerfire Systems, AIM etc. frequently have used police 357 S&W revolvers... of late there have been quite a lot of Model 65s on the market, which are excellent carry pistols.

Looking at the SOG web site they have used M65s and M10s listed in your price range... not 357s... but fine guns.

Centerfire Systems has not only trade in Mod 10s, they also have Mod 640s in 357 Mag in your price range.

FWIW

Thanks for the ideas and sources. Actually I might have to get one of these... I recently gave away my 92FS to a brother also. Hmmmmm.....
