I have a an old hand me down sporterised No 1 Mk III 303. It has the standard ramp rear sight with post front.

I want to get rid of the rear notch/ramp and mount one of the following:

- A conventional compact scope something like a little Redfield 2-7, or
- A "red dot" scope
- Or a "ghost ring" rear sight to be used with the existing front post.

So what are the options, and how would I go about doing it?

I am not averse to drilling and tapping as the rifle is far from original. Also, I have considered a scout scope and dont want that.

The intended use for the rifle is shooting mobs of feral pigs and goats in thick scrub with the odd open shot out to a max of 150 yards, but usually under 50.

I posted this on an Aussie forum but the scene is not as active over there. I would really appreciate some advice.

Thanks.

For those ranges, unless you have bad eye sight, the iron sights will work just fine.

Or try to find a scout setup and mount a long eye relief scope near where the rear sight would be. It takes a little work to get the old rear sight off but it would give you something quick and easy to shoot at close range.

take a grinder to that charger strip guide pins in the reciever, once thats done it will pop right off and you should be able to use a weaver #1 side mount with ease( i did and the kid i gave the rifle to loves it)
