Here's a good one from FPrice:

WWYouD? "Forget about what anyone else would do. Ayoob, Browning, or the Duke aren't gonna be there when it hits the fan for you. What's important in a real-life crisis situation involving you is what YOU do. Not what you do on the range, or on the internet, but what you do when it counts.

What Would YOU Do?

FWIW, I like the Clint Smith quotes too.

mustanger98...

Thanks! It came to me one night after I read one too many "What would so-snd-so do?".

I like your about the clowns and the juggler. Makes me think about the movie, "Killer Klowns from Space". Now those were some mean klowns!

"A hundred years from now it will not matter how much money I made, the sort of house I lived in, or what kind of car I drove, but the world may be a different place because I was important in the life of a child."

"A hundred years from now it will not matter how much money I made, the sort of house I lived in, or what kind of car I drove, but the world may be a different place because I was important in the life of a child."

I particularily like that one, as I work for the school district. However, I think I'll stick with mine, because that time is getting closer by the minute.

I keep a Word document pulled up when on the different forums just to preserve quotes...

Kids who grow up in a sanitized world lack the judgment and immunities necessary for survival in the real one. – Walosi on THR

"Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." ~~ H. L. Mencken

The biggest problem with a bleeding heart is that it never seems to be fatal. -- Justin on THR

I am not anti-mother and I don't want to ban motherhood, but I do support reasonable mom-control laws like background checks, licensing & registration, waiting periods and a limit on the number of children one mother can raise. After all, isn't it worth it if it saves just
one child?

"A golf course is the willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range." - Bill O'Connor

In the great pinball game of life, his flippers are a little too far apart.

In the end, the worst substance abuser in this country is Uncle Sam, and his insatiable appetite for the green. Justin on THR

But my all time favorite is my sig line.

Surprised no one has said these two yet - Molon Labe / BA-UU-R

I do also like the "Those who beat swords into plows will plow for those who don't" - I use that at work.

Heh. Here are some I've culled from THR & TFL:

This is THR, not Oleg's Happy Home for the Greatly Bewildered. - Art Eatman on THR

If you're only "free" to do safe, innocuous, innoffensive, lowest common denominator things, you're not free. You're decieved. – geekwitha.45 on THR

The sad fact is that some people shouldn't have guns. Or cars. Or children. Or oxygen. – Pat Rogers on THR

Well, that must've been the signal to strike, because then they really started to move in, and some more of their buddies started to come in as well. At that point I lifted my jacket, pulled my gun, left it pointing toward the ground, and said, "if you want trouble, you've just found it." I'll never forget those words, or the reaction: everyone came to a complete stop, no moving, no talking, nothing. After a couple seconds they picked their chins off the ground, put their eyeballs back in their sockets, and they quickly backed up to the street. – bradvanhorn on THR

Yep... It's a conundrum wrapped in an enigma and smeared all over with grape jelly. No matter how you look at it, it's a confusing and sticky situation. - "Amish Bill" on THR

Bill Clinton made it illegal for me to own a 15 round magazine. George Bush made it impossible for me to get away with it. - Shootin' Buddy on THR

I see the present (heh!) conflict between the Israeli government and the rest of the Middle East as being much like a barfight between two drunks - both sides are to some degree at fault, neither side has any claim to the moral high ground, and I don't care who wins as long as they don't spill my drink. - Chris Rhines on THR

An example of dying badly is the guy we got called out on who had drowned in his toilet. After taking a whopping dose of Ipecac to induce vomiting. After taking a bunch of barbituates and drinking a fifth of bourbon. While wearing women's underwear. THAT is dying badly, and if I must die, at least let it be with some dignity, for God's sake. The last thing I want is a couple of medics and a cop or two standing over my recently deceased body and laughing their asses off. - Elizabeth Peterson, on TFL

This happens all the time in CCW states, right? I mean, I have to dodge bullets at every traffic light on my way to work, which really leaves me drained and unready for the inevitable shootout over a parking space when I get there... -- Tamara on THR

Stand behind the rest of the Bill of Rights. That is the genius of our founding fathers. The bill of rights is not a delicate creature on life support. It is a genie that has already escaped from the bottle. The founding fathers built the monstrosity of federal government knowing what it could do when inevitably hi-jacked. Therefore, they built in a kill-switch: The bill of rights. Once enacted, the armed populace can not be disarmed effectively without abrogating NUMEROUS articles of the bill of rights. This alienates more than the 2nd amendment crowd as the privacy and state's rights clauses are violated. Can anyone say "backlash"? It is already too late to disarm us. What I'm getting at is that your sword is safe behind your shield... -- "Simonov, jr" on TFL

I have always believed that a true gentleman provides covering fire while a lady is reloading. - Tamara on TFL

You know what the difference between me and you really is? You look out there and see a horde of evil, brain eating zombies. I look out there and see a target rich environment. -- Buzz Knox on TFL

Putting up no-gun-zone signs in the expectation that it will stop a murderer is akin to hanging garlic in your window to ward off vampires. -- "Karansas" on TFL

New firing pin: $12.
New extractor: $15.
Ballistic fingerprinting: worthless. - "youngun" on TFL

Ashcroft is better than Reno. Which doesn't say much, because a monomaniacal dyslexic bipolar chimpanzee with a nasty case of the mange would have been better than Janet Reno. - "LawDog" on THR

I refuse to give up my civil liberties because you don't want to accept your personal responsibilities. - Keith on THR

If you could bottle that kind of stupidity, it'd be a toxic waste. -- Quartus on THR

The biggest problem with a bleeding heart is that it never seems to be fatal. -- Justin on THR

It's a bad idea to bite the hand that holds your leash. - Justin on THR

Air Force enlisted men (and Navy carrier crews) have figured out that the civilized way to fight a war is to sit back, sip coffee, and throw officers at the enemy. - Tamara, on THR

This is my life. If you don't like it, stay out of it. - Mike Irwin

This is my life. If you don't like it, go get one of your own. - me

Closed for thread veer, insults, wallowing in the bar-ditch beside the Low Road, and attempted homicide of a Moderator by way of coronary aneurysm. -- LawDog

In my experience (and this is only my experience) you should always be prepared to run like a striped-butted ape the first chance you get during an altercation. -- LawDog

A non sequitur wrapped in stupid. -- Don Gwinn on THR

PD officers said when they got there, they had to work their way through a crowd of pissed-off neighbor gentlemen, all of whom were carrying some kind of firearm. When they actually got into the apartment, the girlfriend was in the middle of a great big comforting crowd of apartment complex women - and all of them were armed to the teeth, too. God, but I love Texas. -- LawDog

"I'm not going to vote for the pro-freedom candidate because not enough people will vote for him, so he won't win." Circular logic: see "Logic, circular". -- Tamara on THR

Idiots should be told that they are idiots...politely, of course. The poor things might not know. – Byron Quick on THR

an old post

"I perceive a liberal socialist democracy as inherently nurturing a paternal, sheltering and providential social atmosphere that gently and persistently advocates a relinquishment of key moral and political powers within the psyche of its citizenry, and therein lies the problem. While such a populace abdicates individual self-determinism in matters of the concept of liberty (different from 'freedom' decidedly) as an inherent truth of existence, and group conformance is encouraged in matters of State, a spark is lost.

"Not extinguished, but misplaced.

"I have had the pleasure of corresponding at length with some three dozen individuals from EU countries on the psychology and politics of civilian firearms ownership, and the sum of that experience highlighted that specific in my mind. Conceptually, that this unwieldy, diverse, and enormous Republic must remain a collective of fierce, proud, independent-minded individuals seems to defy the cherished cultural logic of those in Europe, Vienna included.

"Firearms are not for some designated, screened and approved cadre solely - such can be a fertile garden for seeds of superiority, yes? While it can become emotionally comforting to some to embrace such a society, freeing one to pursue whimsical distractions of intellect, emotion, or pure fancy without any onus of demonstrably adhering to a discipline of far-reaching and immediate responsibility dictated by nothing more potent than the heart's joy in the vigorous commerce of liberty, nothing remains, of cold, tangible resolution to be held in one's hands adequate to give an empowered overseer pause.

"My heart goes out to you, for surely you grapple with these thoughts as well as their kin as you pursue kendo - for were you at peace, you would perhaps pursue a more altruisitic physical discipline that had no connection to being judged as a student of the art of war.

"Proficiency with firearms is a natural compliment to the student of martial arts, for even the stumbling white belt soon realizes the sensi has no defense against a predator wielding a 12 ga. shotgun at twenty feet.

"Here, the sociological challenge is to celebrate being a Republic of armed citizens, equal without notice to race, station, wealth, color, religion or sexuality, deriving a limited governance that is immediately answerable to the people without censorship, obfuscation, delay, or defiance - or it will be removed, by force of arms if necessary.

"Yep, that's as ideological as it gets, and it's also some of the dream we hold prized to see delivered to our inheritors, though it'll take tireless work and eternal vigilance. We know all men and women to be just as fallible as we are mortal - and we don't want to repeat old mistakes history has laid out apon the globe with such horrific and bloody strokes.

"I see the dream of the liberal socialist governments of the EU to hold a common dream - if they can get the bureaucracy settled: an ant colony. Maybe, if we fail here, future generations will speak glowingly of the approaching Centennial celebration of the truly peaceful global civilization, where everyone knows their place, and there is a place for everyone.

"Personally, that gives me nightmares. I'll do my best not to be complacently slipped into a peg-board, indistinguishable from countless other filled slots. I'll study the arts of war, and the disciplines of firearms and edged weapons with enthusiasm and delight, keeping the hearth here burning bright with liberty, with endless self-education into other peoples, other times, and new ideas on old problems.

"Nothing lasts forever - but we did something that'll never be undone; yep, we really let the genie out of the bottle with the founding of this Republic.

"And those words, those ideas just might be mightier than any sword.

"Vienna, right? Kendo? They don't let you own real swords there, do they?

"Just wooden ones?"

Time passes, but I am glad for having said that. I apologize for not knowing how to render that down into a more concise form.

Hopefully I'll do this one justice....

"I dream of a place with no war.A place with no weapons or means of violence.I also dream that we could go to this place with a couple of guns and take over, because they'd probably have lots of cool stuff to take."
Something to that effect :D

Good lines

Somebody has a line to the effect: Be kind everybody is struggling with things you know nothing about.

The other one I like is pax's quote from Heinline, especially because it always follows her very reasoned comments.

I love that one, I'll have to remember it

I almost forgot this one: "be polite and kind to everyone ,but always have a plan to kill everyone in the room." ;)
