What are you shooting at your next range trip?

I just got a Dan Wesson heritage 1911. It’s my first 1911, and my first .45. I’m pretty excited. So that’s one of the guns I’ll be bringing. I’m used to going between 9mm and 10mm typically. I’ll probably also go rail some 556. But I need to find an out door range sooner than later.

40SW
10mm
and associated .357 Sig coversion bbls

and the trip after that.....357/38spl

44mag freedom arms. Glock g20 w/40s&w barrel. An old k22 outdoorsman. A remmy 308 mountain rifle and a new ruger american rifle in 223

Today I hope to get to shoot my Tisas commander sized "Tanker".

Back from range but did okay. Shot 7 yards standing and 10 yards slow fire. Got the bruise on the first joint of my thumb but no broken skin.

I'm probably going tomorrow. I've been shooting my new Glock 22 and SIG P365 a lot, as well as my PCR I've had for a while. I'll probably bring them again, plus one of my revolvers (neither my Taurus 856UL or my new model Colt King Cobra have been shot nearly enough), my 30-30 Winchester 94 or my Mini-14. Shooting a lot of .40S&W does get expensive, especially these days, so the Glock might stay home in which case I may take two of the other options (I try not to take more than 4 guns at a time so each can get some decent range time).

If I can't make it tomorrow, I'm picking up a new .22lr on Wednesday (a Taurus TX22), so I'll probably go Wednesday evening, if I can get there on time. If I can't get there Wed, it will have to be Friday. I plan to test out a lot of different ammo, and I'll probably only have an hour, so the first day shooting the TX22, it will likely be the only gun I take (or maybe, since I plan to make my P365 my main carry gun, and it only has 400-500 rounds through it, 2/3 of it JHP, I may bring it as well and shoot another box out of it).

Long weekend, might make it out more than once. The first is trying out some sabots in the .54s, given to me along with a bunch of cast .451 slugs. Da boy is looking forward to see how well they do in his rescued left handed Kit Carson. I'll have my T/C Renegade to try them as well.

For what it's worth, the boy really liked those sabots with the 230 grain cast .451 slug over 60 grains of homemade 3F powder and a home made. cap. I shot my snub and did not bring my smokepole. It got hot quick with high humidity. BTW, the picture is NOT flipped - he's a lefty and so is the rifle.

Edit to add - we were both rocking the Lawrence of Arizona look with our desert camo handkerchiefs under our caps to cover the back of the neck - really helps stop sunburn, and has great cooling benefits.

On my next range trip I will shoot testloads. I sometimes assemble so many testloads, I don't have time in a whole day to shoot them all. Here are some. 38-148WC with 2.8gr BE and 6 loads each per different case stamp. I want to see if cases make a difference. If so, I'll assemble my wadcutters with the best performing loads using a particular brass. I'm both reshooting accuracy loads a second time to confirm it is a good load for other calibers. In addition, I have the loads assembled with the (presumably) best performing load and will not adjust the seating depth. I will continue test new 150gr and 174gr loads for my T99 but using IMR 4350 because I ran out of R15. Hopefully I can squeeze in a Barnes 150gr test load in too.

I have a rather simplistic handgun range on the property. Usually I employ the EDC (S&W Shield 9X19mm and or M640 38Spl) As for shooting centerfire rifles I'm a land share owner in a shooting association. The majority of my shooting is with center fire handguns thus just a walk down the property slope section with an adequate backstop.

State Championship Steel Challenge Match is this week so I loaded up 4 boxes of 140 rounds each for my S&W 617s. I also loaded 200 rounds in 100 round loading blocks for practice the day before the match.

I've learned to always bring a second gun. You never know when one will break beyond repair.

Was planning on going with Riomouse911 so I do not have to bring any. If not, I will bring my Beretta 96A1 (HD), and my Shield 45 and 642 (my intended carry guns if I ever get my NJ carry permit).

To make up for doubleh with his run-on sentence, I'm going to make a fancy bullet list!
  • I'm going to bring the 3" 357 SP-101 again and try to remember the tiny allen wrench to sight in the laser grip. If that goes well, I'll see what kind of group I can hold at 25 yards; laser vs. irons. I'd put a lot of money on the laser.
  • It's been a couple weeks since I shot my LCR and I have a new carry load for it that I need to try.
  • If I figure out how to change the extractor in my Ruger Mk. II Target, I'm doing to do that and bring it to the range. I miss shooting 22LR.
  • Lastly, I'll put some more money down on my laid-away Cimarron Man with No Name SAA homage.

Well, today was the RO shooting day. After setting up yesterday the range master came down and told us we had to change two stages so that meant starting shooting 3 hours late.

My leg cramped up so bad I almost couldn't shoot. I did inform the RM that I would probably be shooting from my walker and I was not going to move on Smoke & Hope.

Weather held out for us and it only hit 95 by late afternoon. Good thing I had my cowboy hat and protective fishing shirt. I stayed comfortable most of the day. I even started shooting better as the day progressed.

I'm sure I didn't score a trophy but I had a good time with fiends.

I always have a good time with fiends, as much bad press as they get. :D
