What are you using for a sling on your Enfield?

I just finished cleaning up my Enfield 2A and took it to the range yesterday. It shot great, but it's pretty heavy if your not shooting it from the bench. It got me thinking that I should get a sling for it and use it while I shoot standing up.

With that said, what type of sling have you installed on your Enfield? Do you use it to help stabilize the rifle when shooting while standing up? Also, I'm assuming that the "original" enfield slings that come with a type of claw on each end is not what I'm looking for. Unless they mount in a way I cannot figure out right now.

Don't know about specific for the Endfield.|
But for my P-17, Springfield's, and Garands (as wells as my M1A), I like the 1907 sling.
Funny (I will have to check tonight), but I am pretty sure that Col. Copper says you do NOT use the sling when shooting offhand in, "The Art of The Rifle."

The web slings are really carry straps.

The Brits were known to use the US slings on their sniper rifles from time to time. The M1907 is it (leather, for the '03 Springfield)? And the Kerr No-Buckl.

Triple K Military Sling from Cabelas. I have it on both my Enfields. Not authentic, but close enough.

My Enfield 4/1 has an original sling.

Cabela's sells leather military slings for a good price, though. I think $15-20 depending on what you want. They'd look right with the Enfield, too.

I'm using a military-style leather sling I got from Wal-Mart for my Ishapore Enfield 2A. I have several of these - the first was $14, then they started dropping the price to clear them out (the next was $7, the next couple were $5, and the last two were $3). Come the next gun show I get to, I'll be picking up a green web Enfield sling.

I haven't gotten to take my 2A out yet - I stiill need to get a 7.62x51mm headspace guage and check it before shooting it.

You really can't beat the U.S. 1907 sling as a shooting support. It's not correct for the rifle, but nobody else but the U.S. officially used slings for shooting. But then again no other country has the USMC.

I have a Turner sling on my Garand and love it.

Of course, like others said, it doesn't help in an off-hand position such as standing because you have no support. When nice and tight in a sitting or prone position though, it's almost as solid as sandbags.

I have original slings on all of my Lee-Enfields. They can be employed as a hasty sling to steady your aim.

i grew up with this type of sling on pretty much all of the "non .22LR" rifles in my father's collection. works pretty much like (to my mind, exactly like) the nylon "Super Sling" types you find at wally world. and thus is quicker and for me easier to use than a 1907 type

I prefer leather as a sling material, especially on "wood and steel" Mil-surp types (ie those predating the M-16, FN-FAL, etc). i do tend to keep the appropritate "Issue" web slings for the surplus rifles that used web types rather than leather.

my second choice would be a 1907 type

The 1907 works for me but just for carry.



I have three I swap around from one to another depending on which is going out that day.

Other wise I would need 25 slings and I try not to keep leather in the vault. Bad bad habbit.

The US 1907 slings was the sling of choice on the Lee Enfield sniper rifles and work really well. It really builds up the arm muscles with these heavy rifles when firing standing. I have one with the 1907 sling on my main Lee Enfields and the rest I stuck on just the carrying slings that they would have come with originally.

There are nylon slings

I have two nylon slings that look just like the original carry strap. I have always thought they where made for the L1A1 SLR. Also there is the sling for the L42A1 a wide nylon simular to the 1907.

Mine are still sporting the slings they had when I bought them. One is a web sling that has been secured with some wire, the other is something that looks like rubberized fabric or maybe an old bicycle innertube. I like to wonder about who added those slings and where they were.

MJ, that L42A1 is sexy! I'm jealous! Did you refinish the stocks on your rifles, and if so, with what?
