Went shooting today. Caught the wife firing a shot with her .32 cal Black
Powder Muzzleloading Pistol. This is only a very light 17 grs. Goex FFF
Black Powder target load. In full daylight. This is a 11 inch barrel. Can you
imagine what 40 grs in a Colt 45 4 3/4 barrel back in the old west would be?

Nice, I can't quite catch the flame.

It would look a bit like this....

and 40gr. Honest, there is a gun in there somewhere...

Every time I see this stuff, I just know I have to get into BP shooting. If I didn't already have so many hobbies--most of which seem to involve traveling back in time in some manner--I would have already!

It would look a bit like this....

Now that's something the Old West shooters had that most of us don't--their own automatic smokescreens for concealment. Somebody should send these pictures to the producers of the TV series "Gunsmoke" to show them just how misnamed their series really was. ;)

Here's a flintlock and a Japanese-style matchlock at this year's Finnish Black Powder Championship contest.
