.22lr because it's versatile and I can shoot it in my handgun or rifle.
357 mag because I can shoot a .38 special through it, use the components from a 9mm, and can shoot it in a carbine. 9mm is marginal to me but .357 is better.
40 s&w because my Browning 40cal hp is my most accurate handgun and with that gun I can change out the barrel and shoot a .357sig, and with additional parts even change that to a 9mm
.280 Rem because it's like a low charge 7Rem mag and it's a necked down 30-06 with better ballistics. If I chose a rifle cartridge I shoot it'll be my 6.5 Swede.
12ga shotgun. I don't own one but I've seen a person shoot a 12ga with a rifled barrel/slug and it grouped like 2" at 100 yards.
I currently have:
.177 (pellet)
.22LR
.22MRF
.32 Auto
9mm
.38Spl
.357 Magnum
.40S&W
10mm
.41 Magnum
.44 Magnum
.45 Auto
6.5mm Grendel
.300BLK
7.62x51
7.62x54R
12 gauge
16 gauge
20 gauge
.410 bore
I reload for everything except the .22's and the shotguns. It would be exceedingly hard for me to whittle down to 5 caliber/gauges. I suppose, if given no choice, I'd keep the .357M, .41M, 10mm, 7.62x51 and 12 gauge.
Not giving up any:
22LR
22WMR
380 ACP
9x19mm
38 Short Colt
38 Special
357 Magnum (well I would be willing to ditch this one, I never use it)
38 S&W
38/200R
40 S&W
10mm Auto
44 Magnum
45 ACP
455 Webley
223/556
6mm Creedmoor
270 Win
300 AAC Blackout
30 Remington AR
30-06
7.62x54R
7.65x53mm
8.15x46R
450 Bushmaster
410 Bore 2.5 & 3.0
28 Gauge
12 Gauge 2.75, 3.0, & 3.5
And I know some of you guys have longer, weirder lists than mine.
I narrowed my collection down to 6guns in 3 chamberings
6.5cm bolt action
12ga o/u
44mag revolver
Those 3 will cover any situation my wife and i encounter anywhere in the u.s & canada from hunting to self defense
