I was going through the shooters catalog this morning and what caught my eye was the shipping restrictions. Each state was represented, although each state may not have had a restriction placed upon it. California however was different (hmmm - no surprise there). Almost 90% of the items listed could not be shipped to California. Wooden stocks, night vision sights, spare parts - are they all nuts? The restrictions we all know, do not work - look at LA for instance, one of the most dangerous places in the US. I was wondering what could be shipped to California. Maybe we should round up all the bleeding heart liberals and ship them out there, where they could form their own little utopia. It would solve the rest of the countries woes too since all the criminals would immediately move there knowing no one was prepared to defend themselves. Free pickens, well maybe not cause how much could one get from an illegal alien?

I gotta tell ya - I was really pissed when I started looking at this. Let's keep voting these idiots in and it won't be long before the rest of the country begins to follow in the same footsteps. I'm sorry if I sound bitter but I am. This really set me off this morning. So the question is - how do you people, who live in the socialist state of California, manage to enjoy our hobby?

OK - back to decaf.....

Hey, mugsie. Welcome to the handbasket that gets warmer every day. Always room for another.
All we can do is keep fighting the good fight. Hearts and minds, hearts and minds.

Many things can be shipped to CA. Unfortunately our laws are so complex and convuleted that many vendors dont feel like sifting through them all and just make up blanket polices to where they wont sell anything to CA.

It's not only CA. Think of MASS, MD or NJ.
MASS try now for years to "improve" our gun laws in Maine and New Hampshire to “adequate level”!
As long as people vote for the Kerry/Kennedy/Feinstein/Clinton/Palosi/Edwards over and over again while complaining, there is little hope.
Everyone should take a good look at CA and stop day dreaming!
Of cause everyone can have a hard time and needs help, but it can’t become a life style (for generations)!
As heartless as it sounds, it has to be restricted to US citizen and there have to be shorter time limits. If someone can’t find a job in his area, maybe it time to relocate where there is a job for him/her.
It can’t be, that the government “creates” their voting base through welfare and bleeds out the people who work and pay for everything!

If the police (or politicians) want us in this state, they can find a law to support them. Or, like TSA, make one up on the spur of the moment.

We ignore the laws we don't like and try to keep a low profile.

It's working (kinda) for millions of us! :fire:

The issue is that the gun laws are so convoluted in CA, NY and Mass that dealers do not want to bother selling in those states even though the product is legal for sale. They are covering their ASSets from any potential legal problems in the future.

Most of that stuff is perfectly legal to ship to CA.

The vendor (Sportsman's Guide?) has rules that are not connected with reality.

There's NO reason that it's illegal to ship, say, an AR-15 grip to California.

It may be illegal to put that grip on a certain gun, assembled with a certain combination of other components, but by no means is the part itself illegal.

It's not illegal to ship AK parts to California, or any number of other things.

There are four items that are illegal to ship to a retail customer in California, and these vendors generally don't sell two of them at all.

They generally don't sell:
1. Handguns not on the CA list of approved handguns.
2. Complete rifles or receivers on the CA list of named "assault weapons" or in a banned "assault weapon" configuration.

They do sell:
3. Magazines over 10 rounds.
4. Various and sundry other items banned in various states, including "realistic replica" non-firing modern firearms, certain knives, items made of kangaroo leather, ivory, etc.

#3 and 4 can't be shipped to some states.

Parts that can be used to build or repair legal firearms are not illegal to ship here. Something like a wooden AK buttstock, an AR carry handle sight, etc., are all legal to ship and sell in California.

That doesn't mean our laws are okay with me. They're not. But these catalogs are ridiculous.

Or, like TSA, make one up on the spur of the moment.

Yeah, the TSA manager in MTH (Manchester NH) wanted to fine me $500 for not declairing a firearm in my suitcase.
I had the following items:
- Bolt carrier for HK SR9 without the bolt
- Scope with quickmount for SR9
- Magazine for SR9
- Sholder stock for SR9
- Grip/Triger group of the SR9

He said since there are most parts of a rifle, it would be considered a rifle by the TSA.
The sheriff told him that by NH and federal law he did not see a violation and walk off!
It went all the way to their attorney who then ask me what I did wrong, since there was no frame!!? No frame >>> no gun!
Needless to say, I never heard again from this TSA manager, while I did see the Sheriff 6 month later again on a different flight and he said that this manager was still there.

What I find frustrating is having to shop, not only for best price but for who is willing to do business in CA. Sometimes you'll find a smokin' deal but they refuse to ship here and those that will do business here might charge a bit more :banghead:

This will help: DOJ approved handguns

I actually enjoy my hobby here in California. Nothing like fighting the battle in your own backyard. In the words of Bob Marley: "The hotter the battle, the sweeter the Victory".

Living here keeps us on our toes. We laugh at all the antis who pass strict gun laws that don't work. All eyes and ears are tuned to the next proposed bill on the subject. And join with fellow advocates on the fight.

Besides it's hard to leave the bikinis, plastic surgery models, the sun, snow, beaches, Lakers/Clippers, Anaheim Ducks, Raiders, Niners, Giants/Angels/Dodgers, etc...

It's mostly due to ignorance and "I'll play it safe" mentality of the mail-order companies, so take that grievance up with the mail-order companies, not California.
