Today I found a used New Model Blackhawk .357 w/ 9mm conversion cyl. It's in good shape with some holster wear and has a houge grip. Both .357 and 9mm cyl.s lock up tight. Price is $430, so I put $100 down to hold it.

The Ruger website show they still make it and a .45Colt/.45ACP model, both $599 MSRP.

Anybody have one? How do they shoot? Are they accurate with both rounds? Are they worth it? Somebody? Anybody? Bueller?

I have a .357/9mm convertible. The .357 cylinder is darned accurate shooting either .357 or .38's. I was surprised by the seeming low recoil with .357. I've only fired the 9mm once. I wasn't nearly as accurate with 9mm as I was with .38 special. I need to spend more time with the 9mm cylinder. I've heard that the .45 lc/.45 ACP convertible doesn't quite have the accuracy difference.

The Blackhawk is a great revolver to shoot. Now that I have one, I wonder why I waited so long. If I can get the 9mm down it will be icing on the cake.

Mine shoots very well with the 357 cylinder. I have not used the 9mm cylinder much but the accuracy was not nearly as good. Might try some of my 9mm reloads one of these days.

With holster wear that is more than I would pay , not sure what they are selling for new - surely not much more than that. Are the Hogues rubber or wood?

Yeah I was expecting more felt recoil with the 4 5/8" barrel but was pleasantly surpised! Built on the 44 frame and having that MASSIVE beefy cylinder really helps as well as the SA grip design.

I've had the B.H. .45 Colt/.45ACP since about 1980. I enjoy shooting the .45 ACP cylinder as I reload a lot of that caliber. It's accuracy is okay, but then I don't expect 1/2" groups.

When I use the .45 Colt cylinder, it's with heavier loads and the accuracy is very good, either with 255, 265, or 300 grains bullets.

Nice revolver and with the 4 5/8" bbl., it is very packable and handy out in the boonies. :)

YodaVader: The wear is mostly on the ejector guide and it has rubber houge grips.

The MSRP is $599 from Ruger so saving $170 is pretty significant. I tried to haggle, but the shop owner won't go down on any gun prices. The $430 price is out the door.

wideym, this wouldn't be the one sitting in the display case at Don's in NLR, would it?

If so, I eyed the same revolver the other day. Don's can keep it. They ask too much for everything they have in there, even transfers ($50 minimum). It did look pretty, though.

grimjaw: No this one is at Coopers in Ft.Smith. The owner won't budge on his prices, but they usually aren't too bad. They even do free transfers for regular customers like me.

wideym,
I bought my 6.5" .357/9mm convertable BH last year new for $550 & love it.
If I had found a good used for the price of yours, I would have gone for it.
Mine shoots as well with either cyl. as well as I can.
I put the brass grip frame on it & made the grips from a chunk of Oregon myrtle wood I picked up while visiting my daughter in Coos Bay.
Regards, Hud

That price would be good for a NIB model. One used, that is too much. Keep shopping. FWIW I think you will find the utility of the .45 Colt/ACP much better than the .357/9mm. I have never heard of a 9mm being really accurate, but here of the .45 convertibles being accurate a lot.

HUD... that is a VERY cool pic... love the little safe! :D
