Quick question.

What other cartridges can be safely used in a .45ACP revolver?

I was told, by gun store staff, you can safely use .45ACP, .45AutoRim and .45GAP. Is that true?

Gun store guy was trying to sell me on a brace of .45ACP revolvers (S&W Model 325PD and Webley Mark VI) that someone put on consignment.

I hadn't thought about using the .45 GAP in .45 ACP revolvers, but actually saw a couple of web sites that herald it for faster loading/unloading than the "long" .45 ACP case (?!?). Seems like a bit of a stretch, but here is one of them. I don't think that you can buy .45 GAP cheaper than .45 ACP anywhere, so I fail to see the attraction for this application.

Yes, you can use .45 AR (Auto Rim) without difficulty, and even if you don't reload you can find a wide assortment of .45 ACP loads.

Yes you can use the GAP rounds... I hear from the people who compete with 625's say it has even less recoil while still keeping major...
Usually they are never cheaper nor more expensive, around KC i find they are roughly the same price.

45acp, 45 auto rim and 45gap will indeed work in a S&W 45acp revolver. The rim of the auto rim cartridge is very thick and I can't say if it'll wotk in other manufacturers guns but a S&W will handle them all.

It should be noted that while S&W 45 ACP revolvers can use 45 auto rim, Taurus 45 ACP revolvers can't. They don't have sufficient clearance and need a special thin moon clip. That's one reason I got rid of my Tracker.

and a little warning... the 45 gap round will wiggle more in moonclips than 45acp...
and there are dedicated 45 gap clips to fix that

Yes they could be used, but the cost is where the acp would be your better deal, now.

I have in the past used rifle cases to make up the 45 acp rounds. But it is not, of much use now, that they have good +P out.

The situation has to have clips to be viable. The old revolvers that used half moon clips or the full moon is what I used them in. Colt and S&W in 1917 mdls

I use .45 ACP and .45 AR in my 625. I haven’t tried .45 GAP, and probably won’t, but I did try .40 S&W in my 610 in 10mm. They worked fine, but while the gun is very accurate with 10mm CCI Blazer, it was much less accurate with .40 S&W Blazer.
