What departmental trade in wheel guns are out there now?

The officer involved in the shooting in Madison, Wisconsin yesterday was using a service revolver.

Source? I find that hard to believe.

The last revolver I've personally seen in public was being used by a Metrolink security guard in St. Louis back in 2009. I'm pretty sure it was a wheelgun, but not positive.

From USA Today:

""The officer did draw his revolver and shot the suspect," Koval said, adding that the officer, Kenny, immediately began CPR."

Bought a M64 security trade-in about a year ago ... thanks to a member here. Always wanted one. I used to carry a M10 as a supervisor for Wells Fargo Guard Services in St. Louis back in the early '90s. Loved that gun. Kept all my leather boxed up in storage. It was nice to slip that 64 in there.

They're still out there, but the selection is getting thinner every day.

Back during the Michael Brown shooting I remember reading that the officer shot the suspect six times, with numerous sources claiming the weapon was a revolver. I'd imagine many reporters equated "6" with "revolver". Who knows though?

As for the Madison incident, I'd imagine the reporter just used revolver as they didn't know any better. It said in the video that the officer was a 12 year veteran, meaning they probably joined the dept back in 2003. I highly doubt that even back then the Madison PD still issued revolvers, so it's unlikely he was somehow grandfathered in before semi auto adoption.

Not saying it's impossible, but I'm not going to go off one reporters words. I don't think you could find a single police officer in America still carrying a revolver who hasn't been in for 20 years or more.

I would choose a S&W K frame. Mainly for the ability to find repair parts easily if needed. You will have difficulty finding any Taurus repair parts.

Oops! Not a departmental trade-in.

Found this at Lock's GS in NE Philly.

If you can find one, get a French Manurhin MR73, one of the finest revolvers made. Mine had lots of wear but the best DA trigger I've seen, and I have a Python. Saturday at the range I shot a one ragged hole 30' 6-shot group with it. Top gun in the picture below.
