What did you shoot today?

My brand-new PTR-91 has the non-standard 16" barrel (but has the normal Nice "sight distance") and >>> is all-black <<<. So much fun to shoot ! :D , even at just 50 or 25 yards.
Black: Evil Color!! Inhabited by malicious Spirits :scrutiny:

Excellent iron sights; trigger is not good (Can be pro. upgraded at mod. cost) but is Not very gritty. It's ok.
Don't massage trigger,
just Pull it until moderate recoil thumps your shoulder. This was never intended for a Chris Kyle type of specialist.

The same brand-new gun (HK clone, the PTR-91, in .308/ 7.62x51) you see at the top of this page, plus the Zastava ZPAP.

Please excuse me, that basic HK design gets Super Dirty, even after 30-40 rounds in a clean gun. Acquiring a chunk of ammo, but do to the cost of steel-cased .308 and possible (nothing is certain) future ammo import issues, only shooting 1-2 boxes per visit...but another gun goes along.

Never want the internals to become dark with gunk. Going now to clean. This requires many patches after 30-40 rounds.

Was a cooler and wet day here in Florida. Went to the outdoor range with coworkers. Brought my Henry 22 magnum golden boy and 30-30 big boy, Marlin 1894 in .25-20, Mosin m44, and my Marlin Glenfield 25 .22lr. Tried to hit targets at 100 yards for the first time. Used the Mosin M44 and probably ended up with a 12" group, but was happy to the paper with iron sights. 20220206_125304.jpg 20220206_155037.jpg

Back to the range today in balmy 25 degree weather. Shot my 1936 K31 with Swiss Products mount/Clearridge scope at 100 yards. Getting it dialed in and #2 shows what it is capable of. The dummy behind the trigger needs practice.

Also shot a Tula 91/30 1943 Ex-Sniper with a scout scope. It does fair enough with Czech LB and Polish LB.

AMraider your K31 and the many people who were trained to use them in 1940 - plus the terrain (i.e. armour) etc - certainly kept most of Swizerland safe.

A Swiss lady on a train told me that they only experienced a minor invasion on the Eastern Edge of the country.
A Swiss lady might actually know what our media missed

New 223 load using 2460 powder
Not really shot much out to 300yds but now I have to for our winter rifle league

Target is a 6" circle. Temp 37*, quartering steady wind from the left at about 14mph. Completely overcast skies.
Savage Model 10 223 with a 22" barrel shot from bipod and rear bag.
Orange top indicates top of target and was used to sight in drop.. First shot impact is the X marked at the bottom of the second circle. 12" drop from 200yds to 300yds.
Second target is windage adjustment. X to the right was first shot.
Bottom target is ten shots no adjustments.

Had a .357M Marlin CST follow me home.
Gave it its first workout today (basically new second hand, converted back to original, someone tried it with a dot, didn't like it, so I felt obliged to assist).
Walked rounds up the right side of the target (surprised how far up I had to wind rear sight), then across, 'almost on' at moment.
Fire a round, adjust, fire a round, adjust (after a few of us gave the rifle a 'try out'), not sure what accuracy it should achieve, however, rounds walked up target pretty much in a straight line. Then a storm headed over, and it was time to retire!

Braved the 21* temp with 10 mph wind from 11 o'clock to verify the sights on my m11 243 that I fell with during deer season back in November and my m11 223. Only fired 9 total rounds but found out that the 243 wasn't damaged, 100 yd 3 shot group 1 inch and one hit on a 3" steel plate at 300 meters. The 223 posted a 1.125" group st 100 with 62 gr hornandy hpbt over a middle range charge of blc2, that is about average group size for this rifle.

Went out yesterday with a couple buddies. We shot a resetting target, glass bottles (in a burn pile), an AR500 steel plate, and a couple binary targets. Had a good 3 hours of blasting.

My buddy brought an ar15 and a ZIG 1911 .45. The ZIG is a cheap gun, but its accurate. It functioned great with some steel case ammo, but had a few FTE with Remington brass cased ammo.

I brought my 1957 Romanian SKS, NEF handi-rifle in 22 hornet, Sig p320 DU 9mm, Interarms Virginia Dragoon 44mag, and the JRC 500 SW mag (serial number 0025!) The DU gun was won at a banquet. Sks was bought at a gun show about 15 years ago for 175. It shoots straight as an arrow. All numbers matching. I've put over 5000 rounds through it.

Mods: If there's a thread for this already, just merge it.
I took my AR-15 out for the first time. I bought this about a week and a half ago. It's the first AR-15 I've ever had. It took me 42 and 1/2 years to get one but by god I did. It is a Sig Sauer m400 MOE classic. Not to be mistaken with the snake bite or the tread. This firearm is incredibly accurate. Very very manageable recoil. All around just fun to shoot! I picked it up for 600 bucks used. Which given the condition that it's in I think is damned nearly a steel. No scratches no dings nothing. I just had to dust it off give it a little light cleaning and then oil... Good to go.

@TGW1979 welcome to the forum. I left my AR home foe today's range trip. Too cold to shoot much but reload fir all my centerfire rifles have gotten good accuracy with 62 hpbt.

I tried the new bullets in the SS MR920 with the RMR. I will take a real pistol to compare the accuracy next time, something traditional and a proven performer. I have also ordered a Timney trigger for the plastic thingie, the standard trigger sucks.

Shot my new to me this week Mosin 91/30, brought along my Riley Defense Ak74 and see what kinda groups I can get at 100 yards, and ran a box worth of .22 thru my Marlin Glenfield 25@50 yards. Mosin shot good at 100 yards, probably could do better if I was a better shooter and better bench rest setup. Riley wasn't that good, sights need re-adjusted and I didn't bring the adjustment tool with me. Also realized I was laying the barrel on the rest and I'm sure that wasn't helping 20220214_121206.jpg 20220214_121630.jpg 20220214_123904.jpg 20220214_140009.jpg 20220214_120637.jpg

See image from Google, post 972 (I don't know how to upload:feet:). The new PTR-91. We are 12 minutes from the private club.

Getting decent (for me) groups at 50 yards with the 30/200-yard aperture sight. Rifle novices: the recoil is Not Bad.

Nobody ever stated that a .308 is like .223.

Mars51: I like that gun combo.
