WHAT do I have here? Help me ID it please.

A guy at work gave me this thing to see if I could help him get some magazines for it. It's sort of a chinese knock-off of a 1911.

It's blued, has the safety mounted on the left side of the frame(forward safe, back fire). 2 piece grips with a lanyard ring cut-out on the left panel for the frame mounted lanyard ring. Sights are fixed, with the rear sight drift adjustable for windage if you un-stake it. It's staked in there like the bolts in the AR-15s bolt.

The grips are black with checkering on the sides, and horizontal lines on the rear third wrapping around the backstrap. They have a circled 5 point star in the middle of the grips.

Markings on the left side of the slide are:

MODEL 213 9X19 KSI POMONA CA
MADE IN CHINA XXXXX385

He knows it's not a very good gun, but he just wants to shoot it occasionally as it's the only thing of his brothers,who passed away tragically, that he owns. A now ex-girlfriend lost the magazines for it. He just wants to get it up and running for sentimental reasons.

What about it? Any of you guys know what this thing is?

The safety working forward and backward instead of up and down suggests it is not a 1911, but a Tokarev derivative. Does it look like this?

That's the beast, yes. Thank you. I'm a wheel gun nut, so hand me a semi with import marks only and I get lost quickly.

Where would I get magazines for it? Or, more correctly, what terminology do I use to get the correct magazines while I'm shopping around for them?

It sounds like a Chinese copy of the Russian Tula-Tokarev (TT)-33 pistol. The original TT-33 and the Chinese version, called the Type 51, were in 7.62x25, also known as the .30 Mauser. Neither had any manual safety.

The Chinese made some of those pistols for commercial sales and added a manual safety to conform to requirements for import into the U.S. Those guns were made in both 7.62x25 and in 9x19 (9mm Luger).

They are pretty good guns, quite reliable in either caliber. The safeties, being a "quick and dirty" add-on, seem to be questionable, and I have seen some malfunction.

As to magazines, I did a Google search on "Tokarev Magazines" and turned up several sources of both the original and after market. The same magazine works with either caliber.

"9 X 19" is the ubiquitous 9mm Luger/Parabellum. Get magazines for a 9mm-chambered Tokarev and it should be good to go. Example

I knew it was chambered in what everyone calls 9mm. I just had no Idea what it is.

KSI was King Sports Inc. They imported Chinese copies of the Tokarev. They have been out of business for a while now. They were one of a few Chinese import companies spread around Southern California. Each of the companies specialized in the import of different Chinese copies of guns. I believe there was common ownership of these companies.

The other import companies were BTC in So. El Monte (Briklee Trading Company) and JPE (Jay's Pacific Enterprises) in City of Industry (next to El Monte.)

IIRC, JPE became Brolin Arms.

They weren't known for their quality.

Not quite.

7.62x25 =/= .30 Mauser.

Dimensionally close, but...

7.62x25 Tok Pressures: 40,000 – 42,000 PSI
.30 Mauser Pressures: 25,000 - 27,000 PSI

Besides, the pistol in question's chambered in 9x19mm, 9mm Luger, 9mm Parabellum, 9mm NATO, and (only heard it used once) .38-08. And the topic's about magazines, not ammo.

Again, THANK YOU guys!! Spent some time on google, learned a lot about it. Now I should be able to help him out. I even found the instructions on field stripping it for maintenance.
