Can you identify these? Are they worth anything besides wall hangers? And are the old enough to not need a ffl if sold online? The lever was supposed to be a marlin 1887 in 32-40 from fort wingate nm. Any exact id and value would be appreciated. Thanks

The one on the right is a Pattern 1853 Enfield rifle- musket, aka a "3-band," though yours is missing the upper band, ramrod, and the lower sling swivel. Looks like the lock says 1863, these were made up to 1867 and used extensively in the US civil war, mostly by the Confederacy. "Tower" mean it was assembled in the Tower of London armory, though the lock itself may have been made by a subcontractor.

Condition looks good/fair. Depending on the bore and if the lock still works, allowing for the missing parts, I-d say valued around $600.

Being a black powder muzzleloader, no FFL is required per Federal regs, but some states may have their own silly rules regarding front-stuffers.....

Any idea on value on the lever action and age?
The Marlin is a Model 1881. The custom ornamentation (Native American?) probably hurts the value a bit, especially as the brass banding looks like it is holding together a cracked stock. Once again, assuming a good bore and functional action, I would estimate it in the 700-900 range.

Thanks any idea how to dertermine the year it was made to see if it needs a ffl?

Not quite. In the eyes of the feds, Anything before 1898 is considered an antique and not considered a firearm. So if production ceased in 1891 you should be GTG. In general, firearms greater than 50 years old can be shipped to the front door of a C&R FFL03 collector. This is federal-level law. State laws may vary.

Please do your homework first, tho. I dont know when they stopped making the lever action-just using the year from the previous poster as an example.

Just to clear up some confusion regarding "antiques" versus "curios and relics" -- anything actually made before 1899 is an "antique" and (unless an NFA item) is totally unregulated at the federal level.

"Curios and relics" are guns made after 1898 but more than 50 years prior to the current date. They are regulated but may be shipped to holders of 03 ("C&R") FFL's.

And remember some states do it a little more restrictive...you really need to do your homework....for me and my own security I would just pay the fee and do it through a "real" ffl.

Read the article up in the general section on the cableas deal...you don't need that.

As I said earlier, I was referring to federal law, and did agree that state laws may vary. And yes, as I said earlier, OP should do his homework. Why are you preaching to me pretty much the same thing I wrote two weeks ago?
