I have a g21 and its a fantastic gun. Its the one that sits loaded on the bedstand at night.

Funny thing is I always hear people complaining about how glocks are too big. The 21 is so big you cant hold it. Most people, if they learned how to properly hold a handgun find that it works just fine. My wife is 5'5" and can handle and shoot it without a problem, even rapid firing.

If you like it, get it. Dont plan on concealing it, unless its winter and cold where you live.

...the older ones were too big for my hands...the late models better...very reliable gun but I'd only carry it in a holster made specifically for it...

Another vote for the XD45. I own two, and they are both wonderfully accurate and dead-on reliable. And the grip is small enough for even the smallest hands.

A great compromise on size, weight, caliber, etc. would be the XD45c 4". Probably the ultimate CCW gun IMO.

Other than that, the gun has no positive safety and thus is responsible for lots of AD's . . . plus they are butt ugly and quite chunky in width . . . never best for CCW use.

Wrong. The gun is not responsible for accidental discharges.

The .40S&W will perform as well as a .45ACP . . .

That's definitely arguable.

I had a 21 for years. Loved it and never had any problems at all with function. It was rather large though, and I always had a hard time maintaining a good grip. I sold it because of that. I bought me 1911, Springfield Champion Operator, to replace it. I had the SA for 3 months, hated it. Sure looked nice, but I didnt really like anything about the gun other than the looks. So, Im going back to glock.....thats right, I said it. And Im getting a 21 SF. Fits great! And magazines ARE interchangeable between the 21 and 21SF, contrary to popular belief.

Every gun has a positive safety; your trigger finger and your brain. Anything else (except passives, Glock nailed it) is not needed. If someone relies on a manual safety to stop a ND, then they need to learn better gun handling!

As for chunky, I don't agree with that either. My Glock 19 is no thicker than the 1911s/M&P 9 compact that I used to own, nor is a Glock 36

As for beauty, well...they look good enough to conceal and trust my life to :p

Partially true. The OLDER 21 mags are NOT interchangeable with the 21-SF. The new SF mags engage the ambi mag release at the FRONT of the magazine, not at the traditional right corner.

Glock saw the folly in making a proprietary magazine for an updated version of an existing gun that couldn't be used the 1000's of Glock 21's already in circulation, so they made the new magazines compatible with either gun variation.

I have 10 "old" 21 mags that WILL NOT WORK IN THE SF. There is no front cut to accept the mag catch.

NEW mags work in either gun, OLD mags won't work in the new gun(s)

'Tis too large for my hand.
I haven't had the chance to hold a SF, but it seems that it would be to blockish for me.

The Glock 21/21SF is an excellent choice. As others have stated , make sure you go check one out personally as the grip is large, and the grip angle may not be for you. I carried the G21 for about a year before the SF came out. I got the SF and carried it for about two years. I sent my SF out to get a grip reduction about 7 months ago. The reduction shaved off unwanted areas of the grip and it also removed the annoying hump on the back strap. Man....I love my 21. If you get your hands on one , and it isn't too big, u will have a faithful shooter. I have yet to have a malfuction in several thousands of rounds. I recomend warren tactical sights and the Blade-tech Nano IWB holster.

I have owned two SA XD 45s. They are good shooters, but their trigger reset was a little too long for me. It also annoyed me that I couldn't fully disassemble it without having to knock out roll pins (a plus for the Glock).

Good luck.

I had an older Glock 21 years ago. Great gun - ultra reliable, accurate, easy to shoot and maintain. Unfortunately I bought it before I understood the importance of proper fit and had trouble with my smaller hands.

In rapid fire, it got a little difficult to control and accuracy would suffer after the third shot. If I did not maintain a tight grip, blowback energy would be wasted on pushing my hands and not the slide, so I would get feed failures - my fault - not the gun's. Thus far, it is the only gun I have ever sold.

If I would have bought a Glock 36 at the time instead I would still have it. I like the new Glock model 21SF as it fits me perfectly. Agree with others here that a Springfield XD is a good alternative. If you can find a range/gunshop with gun rentals - shoot everything in which you are interested to see how it works for you. Find which one fits best and have at it.

I shoot no other handgun better.

The 3rd Generation one I have now is my third and last G21. I've owned and sold two previously, thinking there was something out there better in one way or another. I have always come back to the G21 and now I just don't look anymore. It's like finding the love of your life, once you find it, nothing else interests you anymore.
It is big, but apparently whoever's hands they used for a mold for that grip had my hands, it just fits me perfectly.

I have big hands but short fingers (relatively) and was worried getting a 21 until I held it - no problem, and I even added a Hogue Handall slip on grip. I have changed out the connector, striker spring, recoil spring (added a Wolff steel recoil guide rod), and added a titanium nitride extractor plunger and recoil buffer. The trigger pull is too light for duty, but great for range & elsewhere. It is my new first among equals and I would take it to war in a heartbeat. I only regret I waited so long to get one...

A lot of people take an exacto knife and cut out the plastic on the older mags to work in the ambi release SF model. The mag will then still work in the older gun, but work in the new one also.
