What do you do when controlled feed missed?

Controlled feed extractors do not jump over, when the feeding misses and pushs a round in the chamber, it won't grab the round and ram the round in chamber instead. When the chamber is tight, the round is stuck there unless pushed out with a cleaning rod. Is there another way? I could bend the extractor spring to reduce the tension so extractor can jump over but then it may not grab the extracted casing tight to make a solid hit to ejector. This is a 7.62x39 Mauser I built from a Turk 98 Mauser action. It feeds well if the round does not miss the extractor which may happen if the round leave magazine early.

That is one thing I am working one. The extractor is an extended extractor (to hold x39 case better) made from a blank, bind a bit at the extractor collar and retard the bolt motion. I need to grind it down further.

That's not true.

My pre-64 Model 70 allows me to drop a 6th round in the chamber and close the bolt when loading -- the extractor jumps over nicely.

I have two M1903A3 Springfield that are the same -- in fact, the M1903 was designed with a magazine cut-off so it could be single loaded, keeping the magazine in reserve. So all M1903s of any variation will jump over.

The Ruger M77s (the old shotgun-safety versions) are not technically controlled feed, but they have the long Mauser extractor and they will also jump over.

Same with my current production M70s. The CRF's extractor slips nicely over the 6th round.

You are correct someway. I can bend the extractor to reduce the extractor tension on 7.62x51 (308) mausers to jump over, but not my 7.62x39s and still hold the spent case tight. The x39 base is smaller and extractor has to be closer to the center to make up the space at the other side. I think that is why it won't jump over like my 308 mausers.
Maybe I can polish the extractor ramp to see if helps.

Don't BEND the extractor, just stone a slight bevel on the lower face of the extractor -- get a Winchester M70 or Springfield and look at their extractors and use that as a model.

While you maintain gentle pressure to close the bolt press on the side of the extractor. That may bend it away from the rim some.

Also bevel the leading edge of the extractor like the M70.

This!

It is common procedure when sporterizing military 98 Mauser's.

The bevel added to the front of the extractor allows it to cam over the case rim of a round already in the chamber.

I would not reduce the tension, unless it is already excessively tight to begin with.

It is also possible the hook on the extractor is so long there isn't room inside the receiver to allow it to cam over far enough.

Investigate that too.

as your closing the bolt push in on the extractor, it will spring the front out allowing it to slip over the rim. its worked for over 100 years
