I'm trying to decide whether to keep a P99 or not (9mm).

What do you guys not like about the P99? (Or, what do you really like?)

Thanks,
Steve

I've had my 9mm Walther P99 for three months now.

Probably the only thing I'm not real sure about is the single action trigger. I kind of wish it didn't go so far back before releasing. Maybe its just a matter of getting used to it, only fired it 150 rounds.

What I DO like is: Walther name
Looks
Soft recoil
Comfort
Smooth trigger, double and single action
Accuracy
Clean firing
Did I say accuracy?
The decocker's operation
Mag release (really, I do)
Fit and finish
Dependability

A great gun, but I hate that decocker on the top of the slide.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. :banghead:

In fact there is no particular feature that I dislike.

However I'd like to see two modificaitons:
1. At the grip where the lower rear edge of trigger guard curves upward to allow a little higher hand grip (a little closer to bore axis), I hope that can curve further upward to allow a higher grip.
2. Hope Walther will come out a metal tritium rear sight with the white U-outlined incorporated.
3. Make the backstraps in softer material.

Wishful thinking I guess

The thing I like least about my P99 is that I can't trust it to be reliable. Mine has had lots of jams.

After 2 years, my P99 is quickly becoming my favorite allaround pistol.

I don't like the decocker... that thing is just NUTS.
You don't like the fact that its there, or where its located? Personally, I never use mine.

huh? last I checked they were about $30.

He said standard capacity, which is 16 rounds for the P99. He didn't say neutered capacity, which would be 10. :D 16-rounders for the P99 are insanely expensive.

Even though I don't have a P99, it's one of the 2 polymer framed guns that I really like. (The other is the USP.)

9mm or .40? I hear the .40 P99s have some problems.

I love my P99.....except that retarded rail:banghead:

The only thing that I'd like to change with mine is the frame becoming steel but that's just me liking a little more heft behind things. And that really isn't something that I think needs to be done with it, just a it'd be kinda neat to see one with it.

Greetings,

While I do not own one, I would except for that stupid ski slope within the trigger guard that always rubs my skin raw when firing my friends. Other that that, I think it's a great pistol.

Ah ok that makes sense, my apologies. :D

The only thing I don't care for on my P99QA is the decocker. I figure it could be a PITA to manipulate with gloves on.

Just about the only thing I don't like about my P99 is the lack of accessories for the proprietary rail. Other than that, it's by far my favorite polymer pistol.

LOL, no apologies necessary. :D ;)

Ah, yes... I forgot about that. I don't like that either. When the trigger resets, it's quite easy to have your finger pinched between the trigger and the trigger guard. Ouch.

Wes

I hate the mag release. It's too stiff when a mag is in for me to manipulate with my trigger finger.

Why would you decock a P99QA with gloves on?
The only reason you would decock a QA is for dissasembly.

The minor thing I don't like is the very sharp mag release lever that abrades me when I fire it.

The major thing I don't like is the fact that you have to shoot the first shot double action which for many people is just throwing away the first shot except at point blank range. Carrying the gun cocked in single action mode is not recommended for safety reasons. I wish they would have made it with an exposed hammer or a manuel safety so I could have carried it cocked and locked.

You minght as well say the same thing about Glocks.

BTW, this is how I always carry mine. As long as it remains in the holster, the trigger guard is completely covered and there is no chance that the trigger will be depressed.

I have a QA 9mm and the only thing I wish it had was a shorter trigger reset. Other than that the pistol is great. I like it better than my glocks but I like the reset on the glock better.

Mine is a 9mm. It had many jams with 115 gr ammo the first couple times I took it to the range. It seems to like 124 gr ammo just fine, and hasn't jammed yet with 124s.
