I see this every once and a while... it always makes me wonder if I'll ever have that many or if I'm just not old enough yet to have accumulated that many guns. :)

For me just:
.22lr (pistol and rifle)
.223 (2 rifles)
9mm (2 pistols and one rifle)

I actually had to look that one up. If you were going for eclectic, good work. :)

After looking it up, "Holy Crap"

That's a handful of a cartridge.
It's an elephant stomper for sure if loaded to it's full potential, but very managable if loaded to .480 Ruger specs or below. Eclipsed in power these days by the .500 S&W, but mine is the very "packable" (as John Taffin would say) Freedom Arms M83, 7.5" barrel. The .454's are my pet Ruger Alaskan plus a 7.5" Ruger SRH. The SRH is a great gun but hefty to carry, I much prefer the FA. The big bore revolvers are fun & useful here in OH where we are precluded from using a rifle for deer hunting. The Alaskan is a blast to shoot with .45 LC cowboy loads and was bought for a dreamed of someday trip to Alaska.

Manny,

I was just thinking, that would make a fine deer hunting gun. We can hunt with revolvers here but they have to be above a certain caliber. That would definitely qualify. Like you, we're not allowed to hunt deer with rifles in IL. :)

xwingband;

17 years ago, I just had one. 7.62x39. Couldn't even buy handguns yet. :)

If you buy just one or two guns a year for the next 17 years you'll end up with quite a long list. Buy 5 a year and you'll end up building an extension on your house just to hold them all. ;-)

Can't see myself adding any more caliber in the near future. Really Need to work on stocking what I have first. Don't think I'll ever stock more than a few hundred 38 special though.

Lacking in comparison to probably everybody, but I'm a drummer first, gun nerd second.

Not a wide range here. Rimfire: .22LR. Centerfire: .32ACP, .380ACP, .38 Special, .357 Magnum, and 9x19mm. Shotgun: 12 and 20 gauge. Black Powder: .36 and .44 calibers.

I try to keep it small. I like being about to use the same ammo for mulitple guns. I have a practice pistol and AR in .22lr that mirror my duty rifle and pistol in 5.56 and 9mm. I have a precision rifle and AR10 in 7.62. Plus a ccw .380 and a Mossberg 500. I'd much rather have a few guns and lots of ammo for all of them than a wide collection.

Lets see: .22 Long, .22 Long Rifle, .32 S&W, 7.62mm Nagant, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, .38 Spl, .357 Mag, .44 Mag, .30 Carbine, 7.62X39mm, .223 Rem/5.56mm, .30-40 Krag, .300 Win Mag, .45-70, .410 ga, 12-ga.

Economics/Practicality

When I started my gun collection I did actually do so with a logical plan (wish I could say so across the board in my life but I digress ;)). Don't get me wrong, if I had Donald Trump like money I would buy whatever struck my fancy but that doesn't work for me in the real world.

Thus I focused on three primary calibers for the past thirty years. 9mm because it is perhaps the most common easily had pistol caliber in the world while simultaneously being cheap relatively speaking. .22lr because it too is one of the most easily found and affordable calibers in this country at least. What the 9mm and .22lr have in common as well it that I have each caliber in both hand and long guns meaning their quite practical. Lastly but not least in any sense is what I see as OBLIGATORY for anyone wishing to have a survival or 'what if' gun, namely, the ever popular for good reason 12G Shotgun--It allows one to either use for CQB, HD/SD bird-shot, slug, buck, wax, non-lethal etc. ammo diversity. Also, I think many people forget that a skilled shotgun marksman can actually use it to sniper like effectiveness up to 150yds if need be (seriously).

To sum it up for me, I choose the aforementioned three calibers because they are both plentiful in supply, affordable and extremely practical. Oh, and I have a bit of .45acp as who could not have a 1911 in their collection modest as mine may be compared to some of you guys (I have a carbine as well).

I know what some of you are thinking, how can this guy not have .223 , 7.62 etc...? I have just always used either my 12g or .22lr rifles for long distance and I have 9 and 45 carbines for CQB stuff. If I had more mula I would have an AR and AK for sure though...

YMMV.

-Cheers

Offhand I counted something like 16 calibers but I should have counted 12 ga. twice because I have all the components for a muzzle loader too.

That muzzle loading gear/accessories takes up another whole shelf.

And there's a number of popular calibers I don't even own.

It's really not that diversified, but it's more diversified than I can keep up with right now. I've been trying to buy in bulk the last couple years, but for my budget buying in bulk means only buying a couple (or one) calibers at once.

I've got several other types of guns on my list to buy, but the only caliber I see adding to the mix is 5.7mm.
