What doesn't interest you?

Good question!
I'm ready for the heat. Not bashing anything but just what does nothing for ME.
-9mm doesn't do anything for me, not interested.
-44mag used to interest me, doesn't anymore- it's overshadowed by more powerful cartridges that are in guns that are the same size & weight.
-ARs & variants - I have one cause everyone should, pop pop pop pop pop, yeah, I got it.
-AKs & variants - see above but include weird guns from places unknown.
-most milsurps - they're cool to look at, to me there are better things to shoot.
-CZs - I know they're awesome, I don't care. I might get one someday but they just do anything for me that something else doesn't do better.

Plastic frame revolvers, ugh. (fugly)
Airweight revolvers (revolvers should be fun to shoot at the range, too)
.41 (why?)
.44 Magnum (done with it for good this time)
.460, .500 (why? why?)
Any new Ruger revolver (Security Six and Speed Six and Single Six are cool, though)
The old Rugers are my favorites also

On revolvers:

- Ventilated ribs and huge underlugs (>4").
- Trigger shoes.
- Grotesque target sights.
- Plastic red ramp inserts.
- Aluminum components on non-.22 single actions.
- N-frame factory "target" grips, like holding a 2x2.
- Grips that force the hand down on the frame, and completely fill the space behind the trigger guard.
- S&W's version of the internal lock.
- New guns that have all the benefits and precision of modern manufacturing, but still have a wider cylinder gap than my 1916 war emergency Webley Mk VI.

In general:

- Over accessorized and overtly tacticool firearms.
- 99% of modern striker pistols.
- Race guns
- Trendy .404 Jeffrey based short action magnums.
- Pretty much anything overstylized.

Things that don't interest me? Well, I've played the field over the years, so I've owned about everything I suppose, but I guess I have sort of narrowed my tastes down a bit.

Single Action revolvers. I love the way they look, I love the way they feel. I hate shooting them. No idea why.

22's. I've owned dozens of 22's over the years. When I lived out in the country and could just plink with them, or use them for squirrel hunting, I loved them...both short and long. Now that I've moved to town, and don't shoot anywhere but an indoor range, and don't hunt anymore, I find them as boring as watching paint dry. Shooting them at a paper target just doesn't interest me.

Most semi-auto pistols. I've got one (A Ruger Security 9) that's one of my carry guns, but it literally is a tool. It's reliable, as accurate as I can shoot anything, and was inexpensive.

AR's, AK's and such. No interest at all. I've got one, but have never fired it, and probably never will. Actually, that's pretty much the way I feel about any centerfire rifle. I grew up in "shotgun only" country and just never really developed any interest rifles, other than 22's for squirrel hunting.

J-frame Smith and Wesson revolvers.

Ruger Revolvers. They're good guns, they just don't interest me.

Black Powder anything. I've tried them. Just too much like work for me.

Suppressors. No interest.

D/A revolvers with barrels longer or shorter than 4". I've got a couple of exceptions to that rule, but generally speaking it holds up.

Not interested in anything handgun related that isn't a 1911 or a S&W revolver, with the exception of a few wartime guns (1903/08 Colt, P-08, P-38, BHP, Mosin-Nagant). Especially not interested in Glocks, and getting less interested in anything with a polymer frame.. Not interested in over/under shotguns, but love SxS's and pumps. Not interested in having an AR with crap screwed all over it. Just give me a clean SBR or carbine with a red dot, or a rifle with a good scope and bipod mount. Not interested in anything "new tech", such as a Chiappa whatchamacallit, don't care for bullpups. Don't like Kydex holsters or nylon ones, give me some sort of animal hide.

Even though I have had a number of .44 Magnums over the years currently I'm not interested in getting another one. Don't care about semi-auto cartridges, like 9mm., .40 S&W, or 10mm., in revolvers.

I should add that even though I liked Colt DA revolvers like the Detective Special, the Trooper Mk.III and Mk.V., I never was all that interested in owning a Python.

Sticking with revolvers:
  • Really long barrels (buntlines etc.)
  • .357 magnum
  • .460s&W or above
  • .45/70 and similar rifle cartridge revolvers
  • Mediocre quality revolvers that cost more than $100. Back when Nagants were $79 I was ok with getting a poor quality revolver, because cheap, but spending $300 for a Rossi that may be polished but the critical parts don’t seem to line up well? Or even $120 for a heritage rough rider that by most accounts works fine but is still meh? Can’t do it.

I’m not interested in almost all commercial hunting rifles. I’ve got a nice surplus Mauser sporter in 30-06, a Marlin 30-30, and if I find myself planning some exotic game safari, chances are I’ll be able to buy a suitable rifle when the time is at hand.

I’m not much into shotguns either. I have a couple of SxS and an old 12ga pump, should I ever really “need” one.

Most tactical stuff doesn’t interest me. I see how it absolutely makes sense on a modern battlefield, but I’m not on one so... it’s not going to make the gun notably more useful in a home defense scenario and it might work against me in a courtroom.

Also not into serious target guns. Just too far removed from any “real world use” for me.

There’s a ton of niche calibers and whatnot that I don’t have a serious desire to own. The scary (or interesting) thing is that almost every gun made has some specific use-case scenario it was designed for, in which it is the ideal gun. So at some point you either have to stop reading, or just be realistic about what you actually “need” (or think it realistic to be prepared for) ...or just resign yourself to being perpetually broke.

What really trips my trigger is history, and I love milsurps. It’s easy with most other types of guns to tell myself I only need a couple -or none- but with anything old and covered in cosmoline, I will more than likely reach for the wallet.

I'm not interested in being shot by anything mentioned above, or anything else for that matter. Beyond that, until I get to learn how to handle them, I'll also stay clear of revolvers more powerful than .44 magnum.
