I'm trying to reconcile my firearms records and could use an assist. I'm trying to figure out the manufacturer and model of a firearm with serial number LEK53XX, if possible. Do you recognize the type of firearm that would have had that serial number? Thanks for any assistance.

Glock uses that exact format, although their numbers only go up to 999. I have to say Smith & Wesson also.

In recent years S&W has used a three letter- four number designation without regard to model or caliber.

The list of codes provided by Red Wind, is interesting (for a proof house?) but the codes have no special connection with serial numbers, international country codes, or manufacturer's markings. Many of the manufacturers have not been active for a century or more. At best they seem to provide a good list of companies which made guns at one time or another, and that is useful but provides no way of identifying an unmarked gun.
