I really love the narrow grips of my Colt Gov't Mod .45ACP. I am now in the market for something in 9mm and I am looking for something that will fit my hand really well. The prob is that I don't have access to a wide variety firearms, so it is hard to gauge how they feel. I won't buy without at least handling a gun (would like to shoot it), but I am curious as to which guns have a nice narrow grip with a single stack mag.

I know the Beretta 92 Compact Type M does, and there are some 1911's in 9mm (looking for something that is DA/SA or a "safe action", but what else has a nice narrow grip? I am also partial to something with an external safety, however, I am very curious about the Kahr (are they single stack?).

Thanks for any comments or suggestions, but no lectures on magazine capacity usefullness please  .

It was my understanding that any of the S&W pistols with a curved backstrap are single stacks.

The aforementioned STI Trojan would be nice. Springfield Loaded 9mm with adjustable sights. Walther P5. H&K P7M8, SIG P210 if you have some bucks.

The Hi Power and the CZ75B feel narrower than most double/stagger stacks.

This list is about to get huge. Hicap 9mms are a more recent thing. 9mm was the world military standard since before WWI. Almost all 9mms made until recently were single stacks. Add to that the number of single stack versions of hicap guns and the list goes on, and on, and on.

The single stack 9mm is about the most common sidearm there is.

there's the star 9mm's that are going for low prices now (ie model b super). They have 1911 ergonomics.

The BDM is a double stack, at least that is what the MAG told me, handling it made me think it was a single stack.

Kahr is a single.

Luger and P-38 are single stack. I believe the HK P5 is also. Star Bs. 'Course they aren't new.

Lahti and, I believe, Radom, too.

Star Firestar of course (see my handle).

Yes all Kahr pistols are single stacks and they feel wonderful in the hand. You should check them out. The only gun I like better than the Firestar is the Kahr K-9.

Yep.

I have a Sig225 and it's absolutely awesome. CZ75, although a double stack is a relatively slim grip for me.

Smith & Wesson 39, 39-2, 439/539/639, the 3900 series, or 908. I carry a 439 daily, it is accurate, reliable, easy to shoot, and comfortable to carry. I understand the 3900 series are even better, I presume the 908 would be great too, since it is a third generation pistol, just not as nicely finished.

The S&W 908 is great....small, thin and short grip, lightweight, good sights, and relatively inexpensive. Not as nicely finished as a 3913, but just as capable, since it's essentially the same gun in a no-frills version.

Currently available new single-stack 9mm pistols other than the 908 are the S&W 3913, HK P7M8, SIG P239, and Springfield 1911A1 Loaded.

thanks

I have pretty much heard of most of those guns, but was just curious as to what people had. Do the S&W 5900 series have a single stack? They are a 10+1, but have a 4" barel. I am looking for a duty type gun that has around a 4" barel. The Kahr T9 looks tempting, but I am a little uneasy about the 'safe action' and the if the trigger is anything like a glock, I won't like it so much. I kind of got spoiled with my 1991A1, but I want something that is DA/SA in 9mm. Thanks again for the replies and keep the recomendations coming. Also looking for something under $650.

The Sig 210 is pretty dang sweet. If I were you, I would go down and ask Les about the Sig 225. He has had some in at very good prices in the past.

Sig P-239

single stack 7/8 round magazine, and the gun is 1.2" wide with a empty weight of 25.2 oz..If ccw is a prioritiy don't buy anything else until you check it out..also,if you have average to small hands, I think you will really appreciate the feel.. good luck...

I'd vote for SIG P225 or P220 (Euro or American release) -- single stack + decocking lever; SIG P210-6 - single stack SA.
