What guns can I bring to CA

I will be showing up in San Jose (CA) for a 3 month job at the beginning of Oct. I know the rules are beyond absurd there, but, can I bring any guns with me. I do not plan on telling the state I have them with me.

I have already decided to leave my M1A at home, but what about my AR10? I am assuming it is way beyond evil there, even though it is green and not black. So, it will probably stay home also.

I may just bring my K31, Hakim, and SVT 40 to play with. Probably my swede mauser also.

Now, how about handguns, I go nowhere without my Para P14, (hi cap mags ok?)I am assuming my CZ52 and revolvers will be OK.

Now, where around the San Jose area can I shoot these without worrying about the CA version of PC police swooping down on me and my guns?

Any good S&W smiths in the area, I may want some work done to one of my M57's.

TIA for any info and advice.

Sniperscopes


468. Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes of, conceals, or has in his possession a sniperscope shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed one thousand dollars ($1,000) or by imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, or by both such fine and imprisonment. As used in this section, sniperscope means any attachment, device or similar contrivance designed for or adaptable to use on a firearm which, through the use of a projected infrared light source and electronic telescope, enables the operator thereof to visually determine and locate the presence of objects during the nighttime. This section shall not prohibit the authorized use or possession of such sniperscope by a member of the armed forces of the United States or by police officers, peace officers, or law enforcement officers authorized by the properly constituted authorities for the enforcement of law or ordinances; nor shall this section prohibit the use or possession of such sniperscope when used solely for scientific research or educational purposes.

Holy moly, at least it is only for 3 months.

I hope someone who's still there will drop by and give you a SERIOUS answer. It IS a bad situation. I suspect you can get away with a bolt action .22.

The problem with bringing handguns into the state is that you are considered a "handgun importer" and have to register them with the DOJ within 60 days of your arrival. I don't know if there are any exceptions for temporary residents. And, it costs $14 per handgun to register them. I wouldn't worry about hicaps, it's legal to possess them, you just can't buy, trade or sell them. Bolt action rifles should be OK. Semi-autos get a little dicey, as you have to consider what "features" they have. For example, a semi auto with a pistol grip cannot have a removeable magazine, you have to have a fixed magazine on it. If you have one with no pistol grip, then you can have a removeable magazine. Don't even think about flash hiders. I'm no expert on the "assault" weapon regulations, but these are a few of the things that I'm aware of.
 
AR stays home, but the M1A is one of the few decent rifles which are allowed in the state. It must have a brake installed in place of the flash hider though.

Most pistols are ok as long as you're not talking about a tech-9 or other "assault" type pistol.

You should probably limit yourself to 10 rounders for all.

As I recall, that isn't the whole truth. It's legal to possess them, but not legal to transfer, buy, or import them. Unless you were in Kali and in possession of the same normal-cap mags before the ban, which everyone was, right? :uhoh:

I think I remember something way back when about temporary residents not being required to register handguns, but I suspect if that's the case you'll want to contact the CA DOJ to confirm, preferably in writing.
 
Whoops. That's right. You don't want to be importing those hicaps. If you already live here and already own them, then fine and dandy. You just don't want to be bringing them in. My bad.
 
Yup. pretty damned restrictive here, especially for the situation presented.
If I were you, I'd plan and take a documented trip out of state / home at the 6-week mark, to alleviate concern about the 60day reporting requirement.
That way your owning / using them is 'covered' if for some reason they come to the attention of the authorities.

You can bring the M1A just as long as you remove the Flash Hider and leave any magazine which holds more than 10 rounds home.

The AR10 ..you cannot bring. It would be considered to be an unregistered assault weapon which is a Felony.

NO HI CAP Mags allowed in California

If you bring any handgun into California you will have to register it with the State DOJ.

Your Mauser and K31 are ok to bring.

Los Altos Gun and Rod club in the Los Gatos mountains

Markleys Gun Store and Gun Range in Watsonville

National Shooting Club in Santa Clara (well..it used to be called the National Shooting club..) it is off of 101 near the Great America Parkway
 
Here's a few ideas for the guns you could bring to Kali.



1. Any gun you don't mind loosing to the Kali Gun Grabbers.

2. Any gun invisable enough for Mall Ninjas.

3. Any gun you think you'll need to defend US sovereignty.



If you don't have any that will serve these purposes, you'd better leave them home.:( :banghead:

The old sniperscopes had a big IR floodlight on top. From reading this, modern night vision, using passive light amplification, is OK UNLESS you add something like an IR pointer to it.
 
There are assualt rifle laws in CA that are not like laws in other states. You should read up on this because some penalties can be quite severe, even for a pre-ban assualt rifle. The quick run down was nearly all CA citizens owning assualt rifles required registration a few years ago. If you did not register, it's too late now as they only accepted registration for a short timeframe.

So tactical, it was years ahead of its time!!

Yes sir, a fine weapon. Built in 1941, semi-automatic, removable mag, and a dreaded flash hider.

So far ahead of its time that a gun built 62 years ago is now considered the assault weapon of today (at least in CA).

Looks like it will be bolt action milsurps for me in CA.

Everyhing else I own is EVIL !!!

Except for a few revolvers.

just bring mauser/revolver

mauser for fun.
revolver for self defense,with a wheel gun you don't have to
stop to police up the brass b4 leaving the scene of your self defense shooting.
don't bring hi caps unless you have someone to borrow them from
who had them b4 1998,I think thats the cutoff date
 
Don't bring any normal capacity mags with you or you will considered importing them as you weren't a resident of the state before the Kali mag ban so only bring Clinton jobbys with you.
 
I can't see how you'd have to register guns you bring into CA if you're not staying long. I know that SASS has a tournament there every year, and I'm pretty sure there is no requirement for the visitors to register their guns.

I used to shoot at Target Masters once in a great while after the National Shooting Club went out of business. It was okay during the week, especially in the afternoons, but on the week ends, it was packed with illegal aliens who didn't have the first clue about shooting safely.

Not to mention the gang-bangers and skinheads there to stock up for the urban warfare.

National re-opened as Reed's and it is a first class facility.
