What handgun add-on has really worked?

And all these years I thought that "ppp" (the 3 P's) stood for "piss poor planning"...Live and learn...

Crimson Trace grip panels for all of us with old eyes...

+1 on Crimson Trace for snubbies

I suppose they're good in general, but with that short-radius, non-adjustable sighting on snubbies, the red dot makes a big difference--saw the groups shrink on paper and the plates fall more quickly.

I love the extended slide release I put on my Glock 22. It's the same size, just extend back about 1/4". Make a world of difference with smaller hands.

I've gotten where I really like a fiber optic front sight. And I put a Powder River trigger kit in my XD the other day, and the change is amazing.

1. Proper fitting grips, especially for revolvers, mostly Pachmayr and Hogue.

2. Adjustable iron sights on formerly fixed sight semi-auto handguns, my Browning Hi Power and Glock 22 in particular.

3. Dot sights on my bullseye target pistols. The ONLY people I know who shoot bullseye who don't use dot sights (other than on .45 ballguns) are people who can't afford to buy them yet.

Crimson Trace laser grips.

I install them, or Streamlight TLR-2 laser/lights, on EVERY gun I consider to be a defense gun (if available).

I also have several installed on practice guns.

I think anyone with a subcompact semiauto that leaves their pinky hanging off the end of the grip would be foolish not to buy a Pearce grip pinky extension.

So far that's all i've done to my XDsc but when i save up some cash it's going to SA for some sort of nightsights....just trying to decide between a standard sight picture or one of those vertically aligned (Big Dot or Heinie straight 8) self defense sights

I've got these things that hold a bunch of cartridges. They fit right in the grips. Beats the hell out of the self-ejecting single shots I had until I added them.

My most common add-on is new grips. I have a bunch of old Colts, and I swap out the old grips for new Pachmayers or Hogues. (I keep the old grips, of course, so I can restore the guns to original condition.)

I also paint front sights of defensive guns with typewriter correction fluid (you can get plenty of good sight paint from other sources, too.)

I use Chip McCormic 8-round magazines in my M1911s.

Glock 50 cents worth of skateboard tape on the entire grip and Heinie Straight 8 sights. That is all they need.

I don’t mind the first part, but not customizing/improving/messing with a gun is just crazy!!

Boy I would drive you nuts then. Other than me changing out some grip panels on a few of my guns, not one of them has been to a gunsmith for work or tune ups. I just shoot them as they are.

I believe the grips are most important. If it isn't comfortable to hold, how are you going to be able to fire your weapon?

The original grips on my Ruger Blackhawk (6 1/2" barrel) are so small that it seems that you could not hold the barrel level without a crane;). I found a nice over-sized grip that made it possible to hold the pistol on target.

Your second hand is for stability not to compensate for the weight of the weapon. I believe you should be able to fire a pistol with one hand and have reasonable accuracy. If you can't the weapon is to big and you should find one that suits the shooter.

Why buy a 50 cal handgun when you could save money and buy a shovel to dig holes in front of your feet.:)

I don't do much adding-on to my guns. But I did put CT laser grips on my S&W 642 and I'm pleased with the results. :)

I changed the Colt factory sights on my Commanders to a "Retro sight" that has a milled rear surface.

That surface makes a big difference in cutting down light reflection, makes the rear sight look black regardless of how light hits it. (Front light, back light, both look similar.)

I had Tritium sights for a few years on one and they were OK in the dark. I couldn't see the target, but the sights were OK. :)

Since then, I switched to using a small tactical light (don't like that word, but it's what people call the things...) and the retro sights and I like things a lot better.
