What handgun ammo is NOT in short supply?

You need a "Judge" or a "Governor" if you're looking for a handgun that you could easily buy ammo for throughout the last shortage.

410 shotgun shells are still available everywhere around here. Never was any shortage of them or any other shotgun ammo. All the sporting goods stores around here spread shotgun ammo across their empty shelves to fill in the empty centerfire section.

Montana has everything except 22 Lr, even all the way the whole craze. Just had to look for it. Pallets of ammo, literally!

In God and Glock we Trust

A local store in this area, named G.A.T. (Guns, Archery, Tackle) in Elgin, IL claims it is the 3rd largest seller of ammunition in the country, and when I last visited they had every caliber that I was interested in. Prices were high but not astronomical as I have read on this forum and other gun related forums. The only limit on purchasing was that you could buy only one box of each caliber, and up to 5, 50 round boxes of 22LR (at $3.99 a box). Maybe the shortages are actually easing up now.

Lots and lots of .40S&W

10mm available. And lots of 357Sig. Both at great prices too. I have bought 10mm and 357Sig for less (from $18 to $25 per 50) than some current 9mm prices when available. Amazing. Even lower prices than before the banic.

Times like this it really pays to have a platform or platforms with multiple interchangeable barrels. My Glock 20 comes to mind. :D

Vito, I make a point of thanking fair dealers like that (rationing at fair prices, rather than jacking prices or selling out to resellers) with my repeat business. I also avoid the scalpers. In the current drought I have not traded with any scalper who bought ammo up at end user prices to corner the market and then sell dear (bulk pack Federal .22 at $90 and stay lited in the classifieds).

(During the 1980s, Handgun Control Inc talk of sin taxes on ammo or outright bans prompted me to stockpile a 5 year supply of every caliber I use, and to replace old stock with new ammo only when prices are sane and availability high, hoarding without hurting other shooters).

Opening post. What handgun ammo is NOT in short supply?

Last gun show, I found two boxes of 7.63mm Mauser (C96) for $22 ea., 50 ea. boxer-primed reloadable brass., same vendor had 9x18mm Mak at $18 a 50. April I bought a box of Hornady 9mm Mak premium ammo at pre-panic prices, still steep but not jacked, as a B'day present for my son.

Brass cased ammo is just about non-existent around Louisville for a reasonable price. Most dealers will sell brass cased if u buy a gun from them, otherwise u can only get 2 boxes max of steel or aluminum cased ammo.

Out of the handgun calibers I look for (.45ACP, .38/.357, 9mm and .22LR), I've had the best luck finding .45ACP. IIRC, since the first of the year I've been able to buy:

  • 400 rounds .45ACP (mix of FMJ and JHP)
  • 100 rounds .38/.357 (LSWC)
  • 50 rounds .9mm (JHP)
  • 0 rounds of .22LR
:(

I was lucky enough to find 2 550 federal boxes of .22lr, haven't seen any in stores for some time.

No kidding lol. I couldn't believe how much there was last time I was by.

You KNOW that someone must have heard a heavenly choir singing when he saw that...but it wasn't me! :D

41 mag and .480 ruger are easy to find online compared to everything else I shoot.

I keep seeing the same ol' boxes of 327 Fed Mag on the shelves every time I go to Farm and Fleet.

And the Gander Mountain by me must have nearly half of the world's available supply of 17HMR on their shelves. It's keeping all those unloved boxes of .22 shotshells company.

But that's about all they have aside from shotgun ammo.

I saw this ammo shortage as a distinct possibility before O was was a candidate for President in '08. I stocked up heavily on stuff I shoot and kept replacing it. Now that this shortage has hit us hard I think I'll be able to make it thru without self imposed rationing.

I shot for three hours at my club range today. No one else was shooting, in fact no one was there at all. There were some .22LR cases on the ground. A rich guy must have been there before me. :D

+1 7.62 Nagent. then .327 Federal Magnum rounds. It is getting better though. Other stuff is staying longer, though it does still sell out.
