What Handguns Keep You Comapny On Those Long, Cold, and Lonely Night's?

Every night, even on the cold and lonely ones, I carry one of the three pistols pictured here. I find myself packing my Glock 36 with an extra magazine more than the others. It just feels good and conceals well in it's Milt Sparks VM-2.

My "house gun" i.e. always loaded and in a place where both my wife and I can get to it fast is our S&W model 15-3. When I carry it is my S&W model 640 no dash. I also qualify on my Glock 17 so I can carry it if I see the need.

686-5 2000

Is your 2000 686-5 stamped with a y2k logo? Is it a 6 inch barrel? A buddy of mine just picked one up and I cannot find any info onit. He was told it is 1 of 120.

I keep three ready to go - don't know if Ala Dan will speak to me after he finds out one of them is a SIG/Sauer P226 in piddly 9mm caliber. :uhoh:

Another is a Glock 23 in 40 caliber, and, last but not least,

a S&W 940 in 9mm caliber - (J frame Centennial)

Yep BigG My Ole' Bud-

I will always speak too you; even if you stepped back a notch, and picked
up a lowly 9m/m P226 (Laughing Loudly :D :D :D). You see, SIG's are just
great firearms regardless of their caliber. As you know, I have shot 'em for
years with amazing results. And, all of 'em have been straight out of the
box~!;) You don't have to search for a competent gunsmith too make 'em
run. Just for the record, my two West German variations ain't going on the
trading block in my lifetime~! And those are, a) P220A in .45 ACP, and b)
P228 in 9m/m. I kind'a like the flavor of those two firearms~! :D

BTW, when I wrote the first post of this thread (back on Jan. 8th-
2003), I was on a very tight budet with little wiggle room. Well, I'm
still on a fixed income but my toy chest has grown considerably.
Mainly due to my employment in the firearms business. So, if a
bump is heard in the middle of the night the challenge could be
met with one (or more) of several firearms~!

SIG 229 with Trijicon sights. Laser grips for one of the forty-fives is on the wish list for this year.

CZ75B SA. Sometimes I put my pocket gun (S&W 642-2) under the pillow if I'm too tired to open the safe up, but that's okay. It's really accurate, and I like it.

The CZ is the best fitting service handgun I have ever played around with. I carry it when I want a bigger gun. Very accurate and easy to shoot, and very reliable.

Winter comfort?
G19 with 147gr hydra-shoks. At home and in the car.
Sometimes I throw my p232 in my coat pocket (loaded with Santa Barbara surplus ammo).
Took a walk last night in the neighborhood. Very cold and dark. In my down jacket I carried a S&W 431PD (.32 mag j-frame). Light as a feather and six shots instead of five. My chosen load is GA Arms 100gr.
I must say there are few firerams that comfort me more than the Glock. Something about 15+1 capacity in a reliable, accurate firearm keeps the worries away when I'm driving down a deserted road, heading through the projects to a crime scene, or hear a strange bump in the night.

My carry piece will always be handy, but my always gun stays in the night stand, this one. I often carry it, too, though. It's easy to grab and go, also.

My bedside peice is my carry peice, a Kimber Tactical Custom II with tritium sights and backup on the nightstand on a lonely night, a Taurus model 605 with Packmeyers and a SF Z9P. In the 4 wheeler it is the Kimber Pro Carry with the Ultra Carry as BU, and when hunting my Uberti Cattleman in a quick draw holster and my Taurus model 88 in 3 inch loaded very hot in a crossdraw holster.

1917 Colt New Service Army... big enough to use with gloves. See also BRNO Mauser w/winter trigger guard. You know, just in case.

I've shot my Colt autos and BHP clone in cold weather... no fears of malfunction.

I've worked a couple of times as an armed security guard. At one time I had a really nice Colt 38 revolver, I have no idea what the model number was, and the other time, a Smith and Wesson 38, probably a model 10. It was a long time ago.

These days, most of the time, it's my Makarov.

My close companion has changed quite a bit, because when ya got 5 or 6 handguns in the safe, and they're all quality guns that you can bet your life on, it's hard to choose. For the past couple weeks it's been my XD45 ACP 4" Service Model, along with my trusty Remington 870 Express Magnum 12 gauge shotgun. I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood, so most of my friends think I'm an over-paranoid gun nut that is asking for trouble. Yeah say that when you come close to getting stabbed by a guy hell bent on doing you harm in the middle of a Wal Mart parking lot. Not to mention Alaska's winters are dark and cold, so it makes it easier for burglars, rapists, murderers, and other violent criminals to do their "jobs".
