What happened to Colt?

The latest news is that Ruger is going over to producing only 1911s and clones of the Python! All other hand gun production will cease except for the New Old Vaquero on the Super Blackhawk frame. However only the frame will be made in the U.S. everything else will be imported from China and or Pakistan! Except for the transfer bar which is imported from Lapland as it always has been.

All production of long guns will be limited to law enforcement only-No civilian sales! Except for the No1 which will be sold only to the board of directors of the NRA but only when they are dressed in their tuxes and sitting on the dias in a Vegas ballroom at $5000. a plate fundraisers.

I know all this is true because I heard it from a guy in a bar whose brother in law works in a gun store who heard it from a guy who used to work for Ruger.

I had heard that.

Yep. Twice. Ain't that a hoot?

Dpris...you're right. I don't keep up with Colt SAAs much. My single-action revolver interest is mainly the Rugers, though I do own a couple Cimarrons. The Colts are a little out of my price range for the sake of the "Pride of Ownership" thing. I just can't bring myself to shoot such an expensive gun at the level that I like to shoot...which is a lot.

I can get the 4-clicks and hammer down on an empty chamber effect with a seldom shot revolver with the Cimarrons for about a third the cost of a Colt.

One day, maybe...

Cajun...you were there too? I was shooting pool and overheard that very same conversation but I thought it was the 3rd cousin 4 times removed that was the "master fitter" for the New Model Blackhawk that knew all this useful information :uhoh:

I musta had too many Coronas that night...it's all soooo fuzzy :what:

Mtn :scrutiny:

Tuner,
For serious working guns, my single-actions are Rugers. Them what's gotta hold up, handle stiff loads (the purpose for which they were acquired), and cause me no major angst if scratched, came from Bill's old joint.

I have three Colt Peacemakers, all three "completed" by Eddie Janis (who, as mentioned elsewhere, will not work on anything but & knows they have no Uberti steel anywhere on 'em).

I don't have endless funds to buy toys with, but I've been fortunate enough to pull off those three, and they are among my finest & proudest firearm possessions.
They were also acquired as shooters, and even though I don't get the time to spend with them that I'd like to, I don't regret a penny spent nor do I fear to take them out into the sunlight.

I've owned & worked with Italian clones over the years.
I don't own any now. For me, no reason to. If I want the classic SAA pattern & don't need it in bear country, it'll say COLT on it.
No Italian version is the equal, and it wasn't about the cost. :)

Oh, I'd love to have one...but I'm funny about things like that. If it's to be a safe queen, it'll be a pre-war Frontier Model in .38-40 or .44-40 caliber...and preferably the latter.

Maybe one day...

Meanwhile, I beat on the Rugers weekly and tap lightly on the Ubertis a couple times a year...mainly just to hear'em spell C-O-L-T.

I've learned over the years that if I want a "tool" I'll buy the tool that's the best made for the money I have allocated. A Ruger New Model Blackhawk I bought some 10 or so years ago is a workhorse and the grips have dents in em but the action and finish have held up nicely. I'm not afraid to throw it in a cheap cowboy rig I got for $60 and walk the ranch. It's a tool. The Security Six which I purchased the stouter replacement grips for is the same, a tool.
I'm fairly new to owning Colts but have wanted them for years and finally was able to get a few that will see the range but won't be knocked around like the Rugers. It's all about the purpose.

Mtn:)
