Yesterday at lunch myself and some other guys that I work with were out eating lunch. Just as I see a motorcycle cop pull into the parking lot, one of the guys says "whoa somethings up".

I look out the window (right behind me) and see a cop with a shotgun. As I look out and count the cop cars, there were at least 7 and 2 motorcycle cops. They had a car surrounded with their guns drawn, out pops a 5ft Hispanic guy about 60 years old. We could tell he barely understood english as his arms kept going up and down while try to figure out what was he was suppose to do.

I personally don't care why they stopped him but I do have a problem with the way it went down. Not ONE officer came inside to warn people about going outside, traffic that was in the line of fire was going by in the street and two kids were allowed to walk by on the sidewalk!!! To top it off, after they cuffed him and the cops stormed the car, one cop walk right in front of another and the other cop never lowered his gun! Way to many mistakes made in my book and I did see a senior officer on site!

Most cops are chomping at the bit to be in a SWAT situation and therefore make a routine traffic stop into this. This JBT trend only started in the past 4 or 5 years from what I can tell. Not sure why.

They do this crap routinely in the Sunrise, FL PD. Guys sneaking around my house/neighborhood wearing all black and carrying rifles and leading dogs. 6 patrol cars for a traffic stop. 6 more and a fire engine for a medical problem two doors down. We haven't had a murder or real serious crime in I don't know how long. The last guy shot to death in Sunrise was shot by the cops. Go figure.

My only guess is that these guys are bored stiff and are waiting for something to happen.

I was less than 10 feet away from a JBT-style arrest maybe a year and a half ago in Tempe. A number of cops had their Glocks drawn on a guy who was pressed against the hood of a car, right off a busy street, getting arrested... and I'm pretty sure that all of them had their fingers on the trigger.

In that situation, I sure wouldn't want to be the fellow cop directly in front of their muzzles while he's being cuffed. Or the guy being cuffed, for that matter, heh.

I was just walking past on the street and it was happening right in front of me, virtually, and I kept walking, so I don't know the context otherwise.

50 Shooter,

What city did this happen to occur in? Last night I was in Anaheim, few streets were blocked off as if the police were setting a perimeter. Funny thing was, the cops were shootin' the ???? with each other. This happened on Brookhurst around midnight.

Quite honestly, my faith in the police is relatively low.

Same kind of thing happened last week in a supermarket parking lot in San Marino. There were about 6-7 black & whites doing a felony stop and all the cops were drawing down and flagging the entire intersection with their weapons.

BM,
It happened in Arcadia.

Train,
I could call them and tell them but I'm sure they know WAY more then I do and would probably tell me so. While I don't live there I don't need them hassling me while I have to be there.

Since you don't know what charges any of the people you saw being arrested were being picked up on, its premature of you to be criticizing the techniques being used. Maybe you think all criminals are warm and fuzzy types.

tcsd1236,
Reread my initial post, I said I didn't care why they pulled him over, just the way things went down.

How can YOU say it's okay to let passing cars and people go through your line of fire?! How can YOU say it's okay to not lower your gun when another officer makes a mistake and crosses through your line of fire?!

So what part of these techniques don't you have a problem with?

You expect them to shut down the road to effect an arrest?
YOu expect an officer to take the time to walk unside and play community relations with restaurant patrons?
Please. Think about it.
Walking in front of the weapon was not smart, but given tunnel vision, auditory exclusion and how things can happen in the fraction of a second, the real world doesmn't always happen the way its "supposed to ".

4 teenagers brandishing a gun. Cops fly from all over the place. Suspect vehicle is stopped. Felony car stop? Nope.

Instead virtually everybody rushes with drawn weapons towards the car. Potential crossfire situation, no use of cover yet alone concealment. I think to myself, all that training flushed down the toilet because of testosterone or adrenalin.
