What has happened to the model 10 and 19 S&W

Shops all over are short on inventory, only thing I’ve seen readily available are hunting rifles and shotguns. I’m also looking forward to hopefully score some deals on armslist and similar once everything calms down.

Howdy

Yup, I went into the local Cabelas the other day because I wanted to see one of the new Model 19s with the spring plunger in the frame. First time I have been in a gun store for a long time. The guys at the counter asked what I was looking for, and when I told them I was looking for a Model 19 they all laughed. They have not had any for a long time.

Panic buying.

Well if your asking about current times the answer is "panic buying".

If the question is why these models were discontinued then the answer is "glock" and all the wonder 9's, plastic fantastic, and the change in mindsets of people whom felt the only way to survive a violent confrontation is by having 1000 rounds in the pistol.

You had me worried for a minute there.

I just checked the S&W on line catalog. Neither the Model 10 nor the Model 19 have been discontinued. They are both listed in the 'Classic' line.

It would be a sad day if S&W ever discontinued the Model 10, which has been made continuously in one form or another since 1899.

As I stated earlier, they are difficult to find right now because of panic buying.

I knew the classic series were available, I thought the op was referring to original model guns without cast parts or safeties.

I know where a minty 10-5 is right now, no box but a solid 99%+ gun
It's on consignment at my local shop
overpriced, if you ask me, at $650
but that's what I needed to get in order to feel ok about parting with it.

^Well if it's that "minty", $650 isn't necessarily that overpriced, on the high side yes, but not too overpriced for a almost 60 year old "minty" no MIM, non-lock M10-5 there silicosys4.;)

I’ve got a beautiful model 10 pencil barrel. Great shooting gun. If memory serves the original receipt in the box was 95 bucks:) I wish I could find some original grips though. It wears Some Herrets right now

Allan's Armory (www.allans-armory. com) has a few Model 10s for sale in the $270-$300 range. They look to be made in 1979 and are heavy-barrel police trade-ins with the original grips.

Hope this helps,
I am a class of '42 cooter, myself. Good Luck.

Hi All:
Just wanted to clarify my previous post. The dealer I
stated as having Model 10s for sale is Allans-Armory (www.allans-armory.com/aa.php) in Gainesville, Florida not
the dealer in Georgia. As of this morning (8/11) he still had five (5) for sale. Good Luck.

Been looking around for some and aint seeing any, Any body know why?
The model 19 is my favorite SW model , Had a couple since the 1970s. They both get used frequently at the range, I know a couple of other guys that have model 19s too and no way will we sell them A classic that shoots phenomenally well and reliability and accuracy are second to none. So none of ours will be on the market!
