As a new reloader I have a lot to learn. Today's quick (and evening-ending) lesson was that I should always check my brass to see if it's Berdan primed. I didn't do that with the first shell of the evening and bam, no more decapping pin. Oh well, lesson learned.

The REAL pooper came after that when I checked the headstamp, then compared it to the 1k rounds I have for my Garand. Yep, it's all Danish ammo that I won't be able to reload. :(

I don't reload...yet....but I believe there is a tool that can deprime and punch berdan primed brass.

If I am wrong, a subsequent poster will let me, you, and the world know.

Yes, it is true berdan primed ammo can be reloaded, but unless your prepared to go to the hassle or are already setup with the tools, it's not worth the trouble for a poplular calibre like 30-06.

Shoot it off as per normal, but I wounldn't consider reloading it. Theres plenty of boxer primed brass around for reloading, rather than reloading for berdan 30-06 brass.

DON'T EVEN ATTEMPT TO DEPRIME AND RELOAD BERDAN CASED AMMO. IT'S EXTEMLY FRUSTRATING PLUS BEING A ROYAL PIA TO DEPRIME( IF YOU INSIST, RCBS SELLS A BERDAN DEPRIMING KIT) AND WITH THE SO CALLED "PRIMER SHORTAGE, WHERE ARE YOU GOING TO FIND THE BERDAN PRIMERS NECESSARY TO RELOAD THOSE CASES. I STILL SEE TONS OF 30-06 BOXER PRIMED CASES BOTH COMMERCIAL AND MILITARY AT GUNSHOWS AND SHOPS. "FORGET ABOUT IT"! :cuss:

Most folks don't fool with reloading berdan primed brass because it involves more work and specialty tools, but it can be done if you really want to use that brass.

It could be done even better if you could buy Berdan primers of the correct size to reload them with.

If you think Boxer primers are scarce anymore, try finding some odd size of Berdan primer!

Most likely, you can't.

Went to a big gun shop yesterday at lunch time and found headed decapping pins - 5 for $2.88. Good lesson, and cheap too (luckily).

No, I'm not going to complicate my life and load Berdan primed cases. But I will keep the brass and maybe sell/trade to somebody once it's all shot up.

You may yet be able to sell the brass.. Some people cut up rifle brass and form it into bullets via swaging.. You could likely swage something useful out of that (50 cal Likely).

I have not tried it. There are tools to do it(decapping) there are also guys modifying poscket for boxer primers.
I know why do it? Well I will answere with a question. Why bother trying to make a wild cat round or bother reloading to try improving your ammo?:neener:
I have seen Berdam primers on gun auction sites as of late. If a fellar wanted to reload with them.

Or you could as stated "swap or sell them"

Good luck.
