Can anybody tell me what the bullet length is for a Speer 165gr GDHP?

The Alliant load data normally shows a high max loads for the GDHP's and I just want to compare it against the bullets I have before working up a load using Power Pistol.

I assume your referring to .40 cal., correct?

Every firearm is different, but I usually go with the OAL that fits the magazine and chamber without getting into the lands, and that provides enough neck tension.

I seat the 165 gr. G.D. for the XDM at 1.130", which is .005" longer than Speer used during testing.

I just read your question again, and realized you may be asking how long is the Gold Dot bullet, is that correct? Or are you asking about the OAL used by Speer or another publisher?

Quickload says it's .560" long. Maybe someone can measure one and verify that.

gamestalker, thanks for the input. Sorry about leaving out some detail. Yes it is 40/10mm 165gr.

I am just looking to get the length of the bullet just to verify my loads. It seems with the GDHP you have more net water capacity which probably explains why the Alliant max loads are always on the high side when comparing to Lyman load data.

higgite, thanks for taking the time to look it up. I will use the .560" as a starting point and update my spreadsheet with bullet lengths.

I just loaded a box of those, and if memory serves me correct, I believe they're a hollow base. This may be one of the reasons for greater internal case volume, as you suggested.

gamestalker, you must have loaded a box using Longshot. You probably never need to look at the Alliant site.

I am always wary about the load data on the Alliant site and needs to verify. For 40S&W 165gr gdhp using Unique they show a max of 7.2gr and a COL of 1.120". Lyman shows a max of 6.0gr of Unique for a 165gr TMJ FP and 1.120" COL. That is a 1.2gr difference.
