This might seem like a weird question, but I'm noticing gun oil is becoming harder to come by. I used to have a metric ton of it and, over 10 years of shooting have basically depleted my supply. I'm seeing this stuff selling online for way more expensive than it used to be and I didn't see any at Walmart today when I went.

My rankings:
Rem Oil
CLP (close second)
Hoppes #9

I will also say that Remoil action degreaser did amazing work removing excess packing oil off of two magazines I got recently. I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on:

Gunzilla
Rem oil Pro3

Thoughts? Anything you think works better than other stuff?

Ballistol. It isn’t necessarily the most popular but it’s 100% non toxic.

Some people say it smells like crap, but most cleaners do. Anyway a not great (but not over powering) smell is a small price to pay for non-toxic, human and animal safe all purpose clp that can also treat wood without fear of polymerization.

I really like WeaponShield CLP for general lubrication, I like to run my AR bolts wet with it and they pretty much wipe clean after a session. It's a bit more viscous than typical CLP and the smell is fairly pleasant as well. I also use RemOil for certain applications where I want a lighter more penetrating oil (and a smaller amount of it). Most people probably overthink gun oil, myself included. But I like what I like I guess.

I have to admit that I'm a big fan of Rig grease. I clean after every time I use one of them, and I like the idea of the grease staying where I applied it and not moving if the gun doesn't get used for a while. I also like the idea of grease vs oil for friction areas like frame to slide and bolt to receiver. It comes off and gets a fresh application every use. I keep fp10 and Lucas on hand for stuff where it seems like a better idea than grease. The big tub of Rig may last as long as I do, a little goes a long way.

Break Free CLP
Slip2000EWL
TW-25B for grease
I do not use Hoppe's #9 for lubrication, though it works.
I also keep Rem-Oil Dry Lube, and powdered graphite-they have their uses.
I lube the hinge pin on my Trap gun with wheel bearing grease.
I have a tube of GunSlik that comes handy now and then.

I keep 3-in-1 and Kroil handy in the shop too, but not as much for lubrication, though they will work for that.

I change like the time. Currently using tetra grease on slides and breakfree clp for other internals. Rem oil for exposed surfaces. Just added a little bottle of Lucas oil to midway cart solely because the application needle. Nice to put a drop where I want. Honestly I could just use 5w30 but convenience in the little tubes, sprays, droppers are what I want. Got a couple dropper bottles with Kroil too.

Lol I guess like a lot I have no real favorite. Advertising does its job.

OP/Tortuga: You listed "CLP".

That's not a brand. The acronym only describes multiple functions.. Which brand of CLP were you referring to?

For a while I used Seal One, one of numerous "CLPs", then I switched to Ballistol, which also has various functions.
When a bottle of Seal One 'gel' totally liquified in my hot car, it never "re-gelled" after it was brought into the cool house (months later it never re-gelled). Hence it was no longer used, and removed with iso. alcohol.

Whatever Ballistol is or isn't, it's also basically non-toxic.
