Given to me today buy a guy who bought a bunch of stuff from another guy. This was included.

No markings. I'm leaning towards Jap type but thought I woulg ask here before taking it to a gun shop.

Take a picture of the top, just in front of the action. You can tell:

1. Which Arisaka it is.

2. Whether or not the guy that sporterized it is going to the Special Hell (condition of the Mum).

Don't need no more stinkin' pictures. It's a Japanese Type 38 carbine, in 6.5x50. :p

Could be somewhat restored; it looks like only the stock was chopped on. It would need a new stock, upper handguard, nosecap, and stock band.

Edit to elaborate: The rear sight is the giveaway. The only Arisakas with shorter (0-2k) rear ladder sights were the Type 38 and Type 44, and the front sight on the 44 is integral to the folding bayonet mechanism, which is obviously not on this rifle.

Yes, but is Bubba doomed to eternal torment? There is only one way to know for certain...

Mike ;)
