What is reliable but less expensive 7.62 x 51 nato or .308 win ammo?

So OP, rod5591, in what rifle are you shooting this ammo? Besides 1000s of rounds for, I guess, emergency/defense, what is the rifle intended for? What kind of shooting do you like to do? Just plinking around or some relatively serious marksmanship?

My M1A is my best rifle. I would like to use it for mule deer or elk if I had to. I need to get it scoped and buy the right ammo.

I went kinda crazy on the FMJ ammo. I probable have too much of it now. All told I probably have over 5000 rounds between all my rifles. My wife thinks I'm nuts but I like seeing it stacked up....

For SD/HD (which, why else would one have > 1000 rounds?), I prefer a round nose soft point. I also like Prvi Partizan, who are coming on strong as the decades-old mil-surp is drying up. Along the lines of Frankl03, these are a bit more expensive but look very good. Also excellent for deer and larger animal hunting. Here're the deets.
