What is the best .357Sig ammo to use for self defense? With (relatively) low recoil, (relatively) reduced muzzle flash, good expansion, (relatively) low noise, good penetration, etc.

You guys are going to make me go out and get a pistol in the .357 SIG platform, aren't you? I know I have my P229 and a barrel swap would suffice but...:D

Winchester Ranger - 125g - SXT
CCI Speer Gold Dot - 125g - GDHP
Doubletap ( comes in three weights - 115g, 125g &147g )
CNC Cartridge - 124g - JHP

I would probably go with the 125 gr Gold Dot before I went with the 115 gr, and possibly even the 147 gr before I went with the 125 gr. But in any case, I would go with a Gold Dot.

Winchester Ranger, 125 gr. is what I currently keep in my Sig Pro. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on some of those 147gr. pills, though.

Don't know what 'relatively' low noise is out of a .357 Sig :D

From what I have read, EVERY quality HP by any of the big names is pretty effective out of the .357 Sig. I think I prefer the Gold Dot, but, I just picked up a box of Federal Classic...Seems like a pretty stout round.

I found half a case of Hornady XTP 124gr for a SUPER good price a while back. The performance numbers are pretty much in line with everything else, and it was cheap enough to allow me to run a couple hundred through so I'd feel good about carrying it.

I have been happy with the stuff.

Manufacturers claims:

MV 1350, Muzzle energy 502

I prefer the Winchester Ranger 125gr. SXT.Wouldn't feel bad at all if I were to use Speer Gold Dots or Remington Bonded Golden Sabers.
