I know this sounds like a question only the inexperienced would ask... but I want to know what is the best gun ever? This means your favorite gun, the gun you would have if you could only have one, whatever you think the ''best gun'' is, since there is no such thing as the best gun. :)

I would choose the AK-47... or Winchester model 70 .270... or maybe a ruger blackhawk .357 or a .40 S&W chrome Jericho?!?!

Let's just see what everyone likes shall we? Please, no sarcastic remarks unless your naming a gun. ;)

there is never a gun for everything, this perfect gun has not been created yet.

QFT. There will never be a perfect gun. There always has to be some balance. Every advantage always has some sort of drawback somewhere.

Example:
Low Recoil / Small cartidge? Heavy gun?
Accurate / High maintenance? Delicate?

But to keep on subject, if I had to have one rifle and one rifle only it'd be my CETME. I seemed to have avoided the "problem child" CETME's. Mainly because of sentimental reasons, and the power behind the .308

Whichever one I have in my hand when I need it...

Ditto... its hard to beat that gun.

I think besides that, this question is sort of a waste of time. I mean, the OP couldn't even pick just 1.

Skeeter Skelton did a whole series of articles on this. He asked some of the greatest gun people in the world. The general consensus among many of them was a 22lr revolver. It was the most versatile gun. Easily carried, used for getting food, saving your butt, dispatching snakes or other varmints/pests, common ammo.

Well, how bout caliber? .357 Magnum. If I could only have one, it would be that one. In a rifle, in a medium framed revolver, in a small framed revolver. Hunting, self defense, trail gun.

OK, back to the post. Remington 700 in 30-06. (and a Security Six)

Best you say? Favorite perhaps? The ones (plural) that allow me to hit the target effortlessly (or so it seems). Over the years it/they/them have evolved to the following:

Swedish Mauser 96.
Marlin 39.
Browning Citori Upland 20 ga.
Ruger MkII 6".
S&W 586 6".
Colt Combat Commander.

Others are good, fine or downright excellent. Those are my best. YMMV
You COULD play 18 holes of golf using only one club. But why would you limit yourselves to just one club, even if you hit it best? I mean CCW ain't elk or quail hunting, ya know?

Of course, this time next year (or tomorrow) I could have a different listing.

In my opinion, the 'Holy Grail' as a collector would be the elusive FG42, and a couple of Sturmgewehr 44's to keep it company. As to what has put the biggest grin on my face for the most years and least amount of cash - the Ruger 10/22.
