Hey guys, what is the difference between Speer Gold Dot personal protection ammunition and Speer Gold Dot LE duty ammunition? Both are 9mm and both are 147gr. At my favorite ammo website, the LE is $34.99 for 50 and the personal protection is $19.95 for 20. Other than price, is there a difference between these rounds?

Thanks.

I don't think too many here are going to have to inside on factory loaded ammunition. But so far as your question is concerned, the difference between Gold Dots for LE, and Gold Dots for personal protection is probably the brass being either nickel or yellow brass, and possibly a velocity difference too. So far as the bullet is concerned, a 147 gr. Gold Dot is a 147 gr. Gold Dot, Speer only makes one part # for the 147 gr. Gold Dot (#4002).

You should consider reloading if you want to shoot jacketed for much less. A 50 round box of Gold Dots only costs about $14-$15 to load.

From everything I know about both the only difference is the packaging. They sell the 50 round box at a discounted price for LE use to save them money.

When available I buy the 50 round box of .38 Special +P Gold Dots to save money.
