At my university we receive alerts when someone is attacked on campus. Here's the one from today (edited for length):

On Sunday at approximately 6:15 p.m. three students walking on campus were approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects pulled a black handgun, pointed it at the victims, and robbed them of their laptop computers and other personal property. The suspects then fled on foot in a northwest direction.

Now, here's how this attack could have been prevented:

Prevention tips for incidents such as this:

1) Call 911 to report suspicious activity or persons to the police.
2) Avoid confrontations with suspects if possible.
3) Be aware of your environment and alert for possible danger.
4) Remove yourself from potentially dangerous situations as soon as possible.
5) Walk in groups whenever possible.

1) Calling 911 would have NOT prevented the attack.
2) The victims were confronted by the attackers, not the other way around!
3) Possibly the only useful advice in this situation.
4) Leaving after being robbed would have NOT prevented the attack.
5) They were in a group!

The biggest help the law has provided is to disarm citizens on campus, and that only helps the criminals.:banghead:
