what is the torque on hex screws for leupold rings

does anyone know what the torque inch pounds are for leupold 30mm quick detach rings. i am mounting a nightforce 30mm scope. i have already lapped the rings. i am thinking 15 inch pounds but that sounds a little weak. thanks in advance, rick p.
 
tighten them until they snap, then back off half a turn...

seriously, though, i use locktite blue, and snug 'em up "german" style... you know... Gutentight! (good 'n' tight)... never used a torquewrench on my guns...
 
I personally tighten them as much as possible with the supplied torx key (until it really hurts my fingers;) ) I used to use a moderate amount, but then I got my .375 Ultra; nice ugly scratches from the scope slipping back through the rings.
 
BigFatKen's advice is good advice. But, like the others, I just tighten 'em until I can't. ;)

One thing I do know, though, 15 in-lbs isn't nearly enough. That torque would be about right for the base screws, but not the ring mount screws.
 
Typically, base to receiver screws are anywhere from 25 to 55 in lbs depending on the make.

Ring to base screws are usually around 55 in lbs (for Weaver / Picatinny style).

Ring upper to lower half screws should be around 15 in lbs. The most common non-torque wrench way to tighten the ring halves together is to use the L-handle torx or hex wrench and hold the short end with your fingers. Then tighten the rings using that L-handle and hold as tight as you can. That should be around 15 in lbs. You don't want to over tighten the ring halves otherwise you risk binding the internals of the scope, or worse, crush the tube.

The use of a torque wrench eliminates the need for blue Loctite or threadlocker (medium strength). Lots of people use threadlocking compound in combination with a torque wrench for added measure. Whatever works, I guess.
