When we were going through the process of a contested adoption for Mercy. Her birth mother was making all kinds of threats, sending friends to take care of us, if I can’t have her nobody will have her, etc

Solid doors, steel reinforced, deadbolts with rotating core, beefed up door frames, security patio doors, double layer laminated glass, mirror window film in the kitchen and bedrooms.
Stayed in contact with local PD, two of them live on my street including a K-9. No contact order so they can make an arrest at the first sign of her.
We got into the habit of locking the doors including the deadbolts all the time, home or not. But keeping the interior doors open for access.

Glock 17 by the bed in a handgun safe and I always carried, in or out.

.

Take all that money you were going to dump into craptical garbage, and buy a home in
a quiet rural setting. Get a fence, with a power gate. That's a top notch first and second
security layer.

IMO, if you've got to grab a gun, it's because everything else FAILED.

Homebuilt AR15 16" w/ 30 rounds of Gold Dot 75 grain .223

S&W SW9VE w/ 17 rounds of Federal Tactical Bonded 135 grain 9mm+P

Taurus PT111 G2 w/ 13 Rounds of 124 Grain Gold Dot standard pressure 9mm

S&W Shield .45 w/ 7 Rounds of 230 Grain Golden Sabre standard pressure .45 ACP

Ruger LCP Gen 2 w/ 7 Rounds of Hornady XTP 90 Grain .380

In that order....at that point I will have to try to get to another room!

(Ollie is a bit of a joke. He likes to use his body mass to pin strangers in the corner, not his teeth).

High-capacity semi-automatic rifle.

I take a dim view of pistols as home defense weapons. Low capacity, very poor ballistics, and poor accuracy, combined with a much higher likelihood of shooting yourself due to the small sight radius, add up to a choice that does not make sense. I only rely on pistols when I can't have a rifle with me.

Other -- my cameras, alarms, and other early warning systems are my preferred first line. If I have advanced notice, then I have a tactical advantage regardless of which tool I reach for.
