Can anyone tell me what kind of ammo this is. I thought it was for a Mauser but after getting it home I have no idea what is for. Can someone help?

8x57mm is 8mm Mauser (7.92x57mm to be specific but also aka 8x57)

Going by memory I think the conversion is 15 grains per gram, so 15.5 grams bullet weight comes out to about 232 grains. Checking my reloading manual I see data on Hogdon.com for up to 220 grains, so you likely have the heaviest bullet available for 8mm Mauser.

If you're worried or suspicious and need to be further reassured, pull the bullet out of the cartridge and mic it, it should be about 0.323" in diameter. You could also weigh it if you have a reloading scale and make sure the bullet weighs 220 or 230 grains. I'd say you're ok though without doing all that, since the package labeling is pretty unambiguous to me.

I was reading in the last Shotgun News that there were at least 3 different 8X57 types of ammo, and when I compared it to my other stuff, the bullet is a little longer, and I have never seen a soft point bullet with a steel case. Let me say that again, a soft point bullet with a steel case.

Sorry I didn’t mention it earlier, I was thinking about that while eating dinner.

I have never seen anything like this, I have seen tons of the copper wash stuff. I guess that’s what happens when you take a gamble, 80 rounds for $15.

I thought a bigger picture would be easier to see! :D

Recall there are two different bore diameters for the 8mm Mauser. Check to see if yours is a .318 bore or a .323 bore.

Bullet weight is 239gr.

It looks like you bought some brown carpeting to me. I wouldn't put it in a Mauser.
First that is hilarious...secondly...that is NOT 8mm Mauser, I know this because the shell (because it is artillery ammo not a cartridge) is a FOOT long. :D

The photography forum is next door...common mistake. :neener: You can see the fibers on the back of that cork board.

Crazy-MP, if you shoot this ammom you should probably treat it as corrosive primed. Give the bore a good scrubbing with Windex and you should be ok.
Good luck.
