I just sent identical emails to both of them (I also send letters which are a bit more structured, but I was just so ticked at seeing Bloomberg this morning). The emails read as follows:
Dear Senator Blunt/McCaskill,
I just watched Meet the Press this morning and wanted to email both you and Senator McCaskill/Blunt about the upcoming gun bills. On behalf of the people of Missouri, please do not vote in favor of any new gun laws. Mayor Bloomberg is talking about "banning" everything (he started talking about soda machines!) and talking about "allowing" people to do this or do that. That is the perspective he is coming from when he talks about firearms - he obviously doesn't think we in the U.S.A. have a "right" to bear/possess firearms.
I also want to add that passing laws requiring more background checks won't make criminals go through background checks (since they are criminals, they won't subject themselves to background checks - they don't care about what laws are out there).
Please don't vote in favor of anymore gun laws. There are a lot of responsible, law abiding people that own firearms (especially in Missouri) that don't commit any crimes and crazies from New York shouldn't be telling us that we need more firearms-related laws. I'll end by saying that I am happy to report that I will be talking about this issue and your vote with all of my family, friends, and co-employees here in the great state of Missouri! Thanks!
