Hello everyone.
I have been shopping for an Ithaca 37 Featherlight when I came across the following really cool Wingmaster. Sadly I did not
take a close enough look at it, but am starting to get the itch to buy it anyway. I plan on returning to that gunshop Wednesday and potentially make a purchase. Have been looking for a lightweight shotgun to teach my daughter clay games. The Rem 870 I found is too nice for that so now I am after two shotguns! I have 3 field wingmasters in 12, 20, and 28. This shotgun was much nicer with the gloss stock and engraving.
================================================
Remington 870 20 gauge vent ribbed barrel about 25-26 inches.
High gloss nicely checkered stock and fore grip walnut lightly burled.
Receiver had a detailed engraving of a dog and field scene with birds both sides.
Screw in chokes.
Stock grip cap was black with white scroll type letter 'R'
I cannot remember if the trigger was gold, I do not think so.
Price was $479 for a used gun with chokes and original box which I sadly did not inspect.
This shotgun was excellent with a high polish and no blemishes on blue or wood.
It just needed all the hand prints wiped off of it.

I only ask because my 2010 Blue Book lists the Wingmaster as made in 2008, having a SILVER grip cap with black 'R'
It also specifies a gold trigger, and the same engraving I saw on this receiver. It also lists the shotgun in 90% at about $300
higher than the price of this shotgun.

Do not go by the Blue Book unless they are offering to buy the gun. Check GunBroker or GunsAmerica for completed auctions to check real world prices. That is not engraving, it is rollmarking, and that makes a difference price wise. What really matters is do you like it. A 20 is worth a little more than a 12. That sounds high to me. Good luck.

Remington in the few years (!) they have been making the 870 have produced it in a plethora of various grades that affected their initial sales prices, as well as their resale value. It also means it is often very difficult to correctly identify the -specific- grade of the shotgun if it is one of the less widely produced ones.

Hence, most 870's tend to get treated as "just 870's" unless it is very obvious they are something "special".

The price you quote isn't all that out of line for a "pretty" slick functioning 870 20g. Take the (possibly correct) blue book bit as a bonus. :D

Sounds like limited ed. item for outfit like Quail Unlimited, Pheasants Forever,.....Had Ducks Unlimited banquet gun once. It was Ruger O/U 28ga.
If you keep your eyes for 870 there are some nice ones out there one is 12ga 3" with 'Light Contour' Remchoked barrel. Would have bought that 12ga except I already own 12ga 3" bottom ejector Field with Browning Invectors from Charles Daly. It's similar to BPS except it weighs 6&3/4lb which is nice weight for 1&1/8oz upland loads.
